$128 is where the 850 Evo needs to be by now. 750 Evo uses planar 16nm TLC NAND and competing planar TLC drives of this size are selling for close to $100 now. There is absolutely no reason to pay 30% more for this Samsung.

There are reasons...just none that apply to you. Stick Out Tongue Like if someone needs a self-encrypting drive and TCG OPAL support, you can't get that with the competing $100 drives.

It seems Samsung has phased out the lower capacity 850 evo with the intro of the 750 evo?

Is the 750 evo essentially the 840 evo reborn?

Yes, there are reasons, but these are consumer drives and not just consumer, they're low tier, entry level consumer drives. How many folks in this category really care about TCG OPAL at a 30% premium? With the 850 Evo of this capacity periodically going on sale for ~$135, there is no reason to pay $128 for an inferior drive.
The 750 does look like a refresh of the ill-fated 840 evo series. Hopefully they resolved those earlier speed decay issues.

The 750 EVO seems to be an abomination. Who comes out with a new drive that is inferior to the predecessor? It's a race to the bottom, but they forgot to lower the price.

Wow, thanks for all the helpful info. Guess I'll hold off for a deal on the 850 500GB evo.
