organic is always great. folks will say avoid synthetics, build a healthy lawn and these weeds will not inhabit your space. it ain't that easy and at some point major corrective action needs to be taken. there are some organic solutions such as corn gluten for a pre-m crab grass preventer. it works but not well (PSU study, PSU = THE Turf School). so you need to take forceful action... using glyphosate , 2,4-D, quinclorac, etc to knock out the weeds so you can build that healthy turf. at that time, you can regain your lawn, nurture it organically and get to a weed free existence .. or nearly where hand picking and spot treatments will suffice. the blanket approach of weed and feed is contrary to the popular "integrated pest management" mantra.

tl;dr; knock out the unwanted with the heavy hitters then nurture your yard back using organics (safer brand turf products, lime, milorganite) and synthetics only in limited applications.

I'd be careful it seems like the new formula for weed and feed is not as effective as old one in fact read reviews seems new formula is garbage

15,000 sq ft bags of expert weed and feed were $9 at my store. Regular expert fertilizer was $2.50 for 5,000 sq ft. I stocked up

agree the new formula in scotts weed and feed is garbage. I bought 8 days ago and had one of the best lawns in the neighborhood. it now has many burnt spots and is 'browning". I now have the worst lawn on the block. thanks scotts for taking my money, wasting my time and making my lawn a joke. lol
