Picked one up last time for $1. Price went back to $5 and now $1 again.

Limit 1 per household. They asked for ID during purchase to enforce 1 per household rule.

It's too bad these don't have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in.

yeah they need something with camera, wifi, and bluetooth at least. Then you can do pretty much everything you want. You will need to hack this to get wifi/bluetooth.

btw it's not camera-ready unless it comes with the custom ribbon cable for the picam. The pi cameras don't include it - they come with the _other_ non-standard ribbon cable for all the other pi models. (and before anyone 'corrects' me about that one being non-standard - yes, it _is_ a standard ribbon, but the exposed metallic connectors are on opposite sides at each end whereas off-the-shelf versions of that ribbon have the exposed connectors on the same side.

None of this is a criticism of Micro Center and their loss-leader pricing by the way. You lucky folks with B&M access, take advantage of this as much as you can.

Not sure that will ever happen at the $5 point. That's why I have several Pi2s and Pi3s which have all that stuff built in, bought for Free to $15 using various MC coupons mailed during the holidays.

Even at $20 using retailmenot $10 coupon, the Pi3 is a much better value.

But with all the rave about $5 Pi Zeros and limited supplies, I bought one to try out.

So plugging in a USB dongle is considered hacking now?

Not open source? It's hardware that runs Linux....

It uses an AllWinner SoC which, from what little I picked up, uses a closed source kernel so it makes it difficult to build Linux builds for it.

They have the $10 from time to time in limited supply.

Check back often, it will be there.
