not a hot deal but a public service announcement..

i was ordering something from frys.com [frys.com] (around $70, showed free shipping) using a promo code from their emails..

but when checking out, i saw that it added shipping...

so i placed the order anyway (thinking it was a shipping mistake), then i called them up to ask them to remove the s&h.. but i was told that they are no longer offering free shipping if you use a promo code....(even if the item shows free shipping)...

what are they thinking of?EEK!

free shipping on order $34 & up - excludes promocode items unless otherwise noted

"Ships Free" Explained
Frys.com has made it even easier to take advantage of the Free Shipping promotion.
This is how your order may become eligible for Free Shipping:

For a limited time offer, all orders $34.00 or more will qualify for the Free Shipping promotion!

*Major Appliances and PromoCode items are excluded from this offer.* Free shipping only applies when selecting the lowest cost shipping method available. For most orders this will be the "Ultra Saver" option. Free shipping is only available to addresses in the contiguous United States.

Add any "eligible" item(s) to your shopping cart and those will be shipped free, irrespective of your order size, if the lowest cost method is selected as the shipping method during checkout. Eligible items are those that have this little truck icon next to them stating "Ships Free".

PLEASE NOTE:
1. If your order contains "eligible" and "non-eligible" items, shipping will be charged for "non-eligible" item(s).
2. Free shipping only applies to eligible items which are shipped using the lowest cost shipping method available.
3. If your order contains "eligible" and "non-eligible" items, and if you choose the Free Shipping method, the entire order will be shipped by the chosen shipping method. You will still be responsible for paying for shipping for the "non-eligible" item(s).
4. Frys.com reserves the right to change or terminate the Free Shipping promotion at any time without any notice.

I noticed it earlier when I tried to buy a mini fridge. It advertised free shipping, but when I used a promo code to bring the price down to what I thought was a good deal, shipping was added back on. It was cheaper to buy it at Walmart and drive the 10 minutes to pick it up.

That's good for those of us who has a Fry's nearby. Less competition.

If they advertised free shipping with the code in the email, they must honor it. Unless they release some correction statements.

Fry's doesn't ship items from their in-store stock. If anything, this decision to screw up their promotions even further may send more people to their "local" Fry's instead of using the free shipping option. Those of us without a local Fry's will simply give Fry's the finger and not shop there at all. They've been asshats for some time now with their low stock shipping and now they've become even bigger asshats for forcing those without a local Fry's to choose the promo discount or free shipping. I'm choosing to spend my money elsewhere. Screw them. Mad

Where else can you spend? You shop at Fry's because you don't have to pay tax or shipping. You are smart enough to know they are one of the last dinosaurs on earth that didn't collect tax and gave you free shipping.

Lots of places. Amazon, Micro Center, Best Buy... Plenty of places don't play these stupid games that Fry's does. And now it's pay shipping or use a promo code, not both.

Also, there are plenty of people with a Fry's in their state that is too far away to drive to. They still get to pay sales tax.

Fry's new "use promo code OR get free shipping" policy tacked on to their lack of shippable inventory has me cheering them all the way into Chapter 11. They're asshats.

Well..... mostly true. Fry's online is a separate division of Fry's. It was once called The Outpost. Fry's bought them. So yes, Fry's online orders are not shipped from Fry's stores. But........ you can call up a Fry's store and talk to the little know department called "telesales". They will take phone orders and ship them to you from a store. It's a leftover from before Fry's Online came into being.

According to an email requesting info on why I was charged $9 shipping on a "Ships Free" item:

Quote :
We apologize for the inconvenience, however an update to our free shipping policy
has been made and effective as of 08/19/16. Items over 34.00 at regular inventory
and/or instant savings price will qualify for free shipping, however any items with
promotional code discounts applied regardless of price will be charged shipping costs.
For more information on how free shipping is handled with eligible and non-eligible
items please see: http://www.frys.com/template/help...ghtad:box1
So if shipping routinely kills the deal for you, Fry's isn't going to be your favorite...

I don't see anything wrong with it. I have to pay Tax and Shipping at Amazon & BestBuy. Micro Center charges shipping as well.
