Nice deal, just $10 more than a deal on a 1st-gen model. Well worth the extra $10 for cutting latency in half.

looking for something to amplify the volume of 3.5 mm microphone and 3.5 mm headphone. Will this do the job? Anything else you recommend?

This looks a significant imporvement on the 1st gen 2i2, too bad for all those who bought the 1st gen models (making it the "best selling interface in the nation"), who have had to buy additional DI Boxes and Mic cables for the sake of controlling their high output instruments.

A shame that Focusrite couldn't get it right on the first pass, at least those looking to start out to record can actually buy something that they can plug into and play without being restricted by having to buy additional gear to make it work correctly.

Why would anyone buy the first gen?, its obsolete to this new model. Focusrite should discontinue the original or at least sell it for less as it is an inferior model now.

Get this price matched from Musician's Friend and you can take advantage of their 8% store credit. Also, they have one return available for ~$92.

Lower latency, for starters. I have a first gen 18i20 in my studio, and recently bought the 2nd Gen 2i2 for my live keyboard rig (for $150). The 2i2 v2 is a solid performer. I'm very satisfied with it.

Until the newer model with lower latency, people seemed to be fine with the first gen latency. So, what does the better latency buy you in terms of how well you make your recordings? Other than specmanship, can you describe how do the milliseconds manifest in audible diffetence?

I'm running a complicated Mainstage rig with many virtual instruments, and this ensures I can play precisely, and reliably. My older interface (not a 2i2) had challenges.

latency makes a big deal when you start adding plugins into your effects chain, or you have a vocalist singing over a background track, then you want there vocals to playback as close as possible in real time, to avoid ruining a take. just speaking from a producers standpoint, I happen to own the 1st gen model. I've found workarounds for the latency, but the less you have to compromise, the better, and more quickly you can work.

I would say the included Ableton Live Lite is more teaser ware than trial ware. You can use it to see the potential. As soon as you want to do anything serious you will need to pay and upgrade.

With this I am halfway to being as great as Pewdy Pie! The other half comes from the Black Edition Yeti Mic I bought from Dell in another Slickdeal thread.

In all seriousness I picked this up for my nephew who records and mixes music. He has been pestering me for one for some time. I thought I would have to wait until Black Friday but this deal is good enough for me. Smilie Perfect timing!
