I need a safe bittorrent client....suggestions?

fsyowad 2,633 239 August 26, 2016 at 03:44 PM
I am hoping I can ask this question..

I need a safe bittorrent client. I used to use Utorrent years ago till downloading it would hijack my browser. So I gave up on the torrents. It does not have to necessarily be free, just completely safe and maybe somewhat easy to use.

Thanks in advance.

Running Chrome with Windows 10.

This has nothing to do with Utorrent, but more likely is you ISP or the torrent sites doing the hijacking. For example if you have Comcast - see this LINK [xfinity.com]

"In common with other ISPs, Comcast will start out with friendly alerts informing customers that their account has been used to share copyrighted material, accompanied with an email listing details on the alleged infringement. After four warnings, repeated offenders will then enter the "mitigation phase" during which their service will be interrupted.

Comcast has chosen a browser "hijack," making it impossible for customers to browse the Internet, but without interrupting VOIP and other essential services."

The solution would be getting VPN [privateinternetaccess.com]

I downloaded Bitcomet. If your not careful you are tricked into downloading some kind of hellish xtra program. I think I avoided this .They are tricky....no means yes, and yes means no.

I guess in the next few days I will see if any suprises show up on my computer. I was kind of overdue for a new Windows install anyway

uTorrent is just fine. Been using it years. A lot of times when you try to install it it will give you several free software downloads during setup, these could be hijacking your computer. Make sure to read carefully during installation and don't just keep clicking "Next"

Comcast also throttles torrent traffic (even completely legitimate uses such as research data or linux distributions). If they notice torrent traffic through your connection they will throttle it.

Utorrent does not haijack your browser, you may get hacked by browser hijacker [uufix.com]or other malware.

If you want some clean download, the most secure way is to check the checkbox and avoid additional bundles since third party will be added more or less.

I use Bitcomet but make sure to set the Protocol Encyption to "Force" so all seeds and leeches are forced to use protocol encryption.

Just make sure you're using a trusted torrent source and you can pretty much use whatever program you want for downloading torrents.

The browser hijacking probably occurred when installing the torrent program. I know most torrent program installs try to get you to install other garbage with it. As any user should do, read every prompt and every popup. Uncheck the boxes for extra software and homepage settings.

U torrent is the software you want. If you continue to have issues, get a VPN.

I love portable apps, and the programs are typically open source and vetted by the development team.

All apps in the world should be like portable apps.

cheap, fast, good - pick any two.

PSA: Yahoo email is extremely insecure...switch to Gmail if you can!! Hotmail is better but not as good as Gmail.
