Touchpad not functioning on laptop

OpenMike 29 14 August 27, 2016 at 03:13 PM
Hello,
I am having issues with my Lenovo Ideapad Flex 15 laptop. The Touchpad has stopped functioning. It did this in the past, and a driver update fixed it. I have tried the driver update again, but that isn’t fixing it this time.

Relevant PC info
Came loaded with Windows 8. I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit and it worked fine for over a year.
Everything else seems to be functioning fine. I have read that getting into the BIOS might be necessary, but it doesn’t seem to be an option. I tried f2, f10, and delete during start ups and it just went right through to windows.
Also, I have tried Fn+8 ..I’m all out of ideas. I’d appreciate some help.

Thanks

They suggest de-installing the drivers and deleting the old driver software files then allowing Windows 10 to search the web and find the best drivers. I'll bet deleting the old Windows 8 driver files will help clear this up for you.

This worked for me! Thank to CMartins for posting it. In case you didn't get that, here is a list of instructions:

- Press Windows+X.

- Select Device Manager.

- Find the Touchscreen driver under Mice and Other Pointing Devices>USB Touchscreen Controller(A111). You're going to uninstall this and check the box that says "Delete the driver software for this device". Don't worry, it won't blow up your computer.

- Restart your computer.

- Re-open the Device Manager, and confirm that the Touchscreen is now listed under Human Interface Devices. Your issue should be resolved!

no wonder fresh install is still recommended. win10 is still not good for this kind of problems.

had similar problem when using win XP, most people wont manually check for driver update if not having any
problem, windows should ask user if having problem, if want to back up the driver somewhere then delete them.

same problem happen twice is less likely a hard drive problem,
but won't hurt to take a look at it's health with CrystalDiskInfo,
look at "Reallocated Sectors count" and "Current pending sectors count" both values zero is best, or small value but not increasing, increasing is dying.

I believe the suggestion here was to update the bios, which isn't a bad idea but won't help this immediate problem. You can usually get an EXE from Lenovo's site for your model to update the bios.
