1) RingPlus Surfing Rueben: Unlimited Minutes/Texts/MMS/MB LTE (Surfing Data) w/$38 first month cost; cost will be reduced to $0 within 5 months; UPGRADES available.

2) RingPlus Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket Plan: 6,000/6,000/6,000/6,000 Minutes/Texts/MMS/MB LTE (Surfing Data) w/$38 one-time Top-Up; Allotments start at 4750 and go to 6000 within 5 months; UPGRADES available.

More About the Two Plans

Start-time Sunday August 28, 2016 at 4pm-7pm Pacific. For new activations and for upgrades 7pm-until sold out. The number of upgrades available depends on the number of new subscriptions to each individual plan.

1. Surfing Reuben (Data Research)

Free Unlimited Plan within 5 months – Limited Spaces

Here is how it will work:

1) The Surfing Rueben Plan will start out with the following:

First Month $38

Unlimited -Talk- Text –MMS and LTE Data

2) Over the next five billing cycles, RingPlus will subtract $7.60 off your cost until the plan cost reaches $0. (Second month will be $30.20 …Third month will be $22.60 until after five months $0)

3) After that you will have free/month: Unlimited-Talk-Text-MMS and Data over the data.

4) By signing up for this plan, you agree to participate in this beta test which is researching the field of data compression, speed variation, and data stream sponsorships among other things. The goal is to research and produce the next generation of data delivery which will reduce RingPlus’ data costs while delivering a good consumer data experience and more free data.

What is different? (Why is it a research plan?)

The basic goal is making your data last longer and to reduce data burn, without the cell phone user really noticing it and opening it up for alternative revenue streams paying for the free data.

You know that many companies are currently playing with data manipulation and slower speeds for streaming (but still enough to enjoy the video) with better compression, throttling some times, and sometimes not, to reduce data burn. We will do the same with the addition of inserting advertisement by Internet search, or an ad when you launch the browser sometimes.

The goal is to bring you to unlimited data usage by sponsored data.

-----

2. Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket

Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket Free Plan will be without advertisement during the RingBack tone and calls directly routed over the Sprint network as all Sprint post, -prepaid and RingPlus’ Mad plans.

The Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket plan will utilize data optimization as explained below.

By signing up for this plan, you agree to participate in this beta test which is researching the field of data compression, speed variation, and data stream sponsorships among other things. The goal is to research and produce the next generation of data delivery which will reduce RingPlus’ data costs while delivering a good consumer data experience and more free data.

Here is how it will work:

1) The Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket Free Plan will start out with the following:

Free/month: 4,750 talk, text, MMS, and MB

2) Over the next five billing cycles, RingPlus will add an additional 250 talk, text, MMS, and MB (4G LTE data with surfing data modification) to the Mad Surfing BBQ Brisket Free Plan Plan.

3) After that, you will have free/month: 6,000 talk, text, MMS, and MB (4G LTE data with surfing data modification ) going forward.

A $38 Top-Up is required to cover overages. If, and only if, the Top-Up balance reaches $0, another $38 auto Top-Up will be automatically charged to your credit card on file.

Overages:

$0.05 per talk, text MMS $15 per GB

Overages will be drawn from your Top-Up balance, plus applicable telecom taxes and fees.

Upgrades available on August 28, 2016 at 7pm Pacific (Limited spaces equal to the number of new subscriptions to any given plan.)

For Regular Upgrades:

A $25 upgrade fee will be charged to your credit card, and added to your existing Top-Up. Afterwards, if, and only if, the Top-Up balance reaches $0, another $38 auto Top-Up will be automatically charged to your credit card on file.

For a new phone, do NOT open the retail packaging until after successful RingPlus sign-up
So the phone can be returned if sign-up fails.
If you power on the phone before sign-up, the phone might (or likely will?) activate automatically to its original mobile operator (e.g., a Boost phone activate automatically to Boost). A factory reset might not fix it.
If you power on the phone after successful sign-up, the phone might (or likely will?) activate automatically to RingPlus.
============== Quick Start ==============
Background
RingPlus provides service using the Sprint network. Unexpected outages can occur, as with any phone service.
RingPlus intends to provide "free" or cheap service by playing advertisement, instead of ringback tone, on outgoing calls.
Click HERE for info on the Member+ program.
Hardware you need
You need a phone that works on the Sprint network.
PLEASE READ THIS THREAD ON R+ SOCIAL IMPORTANT ACTIVATION NOTICE REGARDING PREPAID PHONES [ringplus.net]
The easiest bet might be a new phone from Best Buy, and Best Buy usually has the best deal.
Click on this link [bestbuy.com] to see available phones that should work, with price sorted from low to high. The Moto E is pretty popular.
The new phone will already include a SIM card.
Be sure to check your device using the R+ Device Checker [ringplus.net] to see if it will work.
But do NOT open the retail packaging until after successful RingPlus sign-up.
How things work
Visit https://ringplus.net/#plans.
Select a plan, and click on "Sign Up" on the right.
Enter both MEID and ICC ID (from outside the retail package) when you sign up.
After successful sign-up, open the retail package and power on the phone. Allow it to complete a hands-free activation.
Set up Wifi on the phone soon, so updates do not use up your data allotment.

Back to Preamble
============== Background ==============

What is RingPlus
RingPlus is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) using the Sprint Nationwide Network.
Coverage should be the same as other Sprint MVNOs including Virgin Mobile (coverage map [virginmobileusa.com]) and Boost Mobile.
Calls are transmitted over cellular voice network, with no transcoding [ringplus.net], like other Sprint MVNOs except for FreedomPop. FreedomPop is an exception because it transmits calls over Wi-Fi and data network.
RingPlus provides "free" or low cost phone service by ostensibly playing advertisement, instead of ringback tone [wikipedia.org], on outgoing calls. The other party cannot tell any difference.
However, currently there are practically no advertisements, and instead "radio" (e.g., part of a song) is played.
You can choose one or more "radio stations". [ringplus.net]
During advertisement or "radio" playback, you can press '5' to receive a text message. Text messages sent by RingPlus, and ONLY these text messages, are free and do not use up your allotment. [ringplus.net]
You must make at least 1 outgoing call every 60 calendar days to prevent account closure. See #10 under General Rules [ringplus.net].
A WiFi call counts as a call. [ringplus.net]
You can look up your "Wifi FluidCall" settings in your account, and configure a SIP client.
Example SIP clients include Zoiper [google.com], CSipSimple [google.com], and even Obihai [ringplus.net].
See Wifi Calling section of https://ringplus.net/details/ for additional SIP client suggestions.
You can cancel at anytime because there is no contract. However, account balance is not refundable and will be lost if you cancel.
In your account, under "Manage Plan & Add Ons", there is "Cancel this Plan".

Back to Preamble
What is the Member+ Program

2) Special Prices for data Add Ons.
3) Special store discounts and credits exclusively for Member+ subscribers for products and services from RingPlus and its sponsors.

b. Support staff will swap ESNs for you between accounts (basically, internal ports for free).
c. Member+ subscribers will be able select their area code (coming soon).
***More benefits to come.***
How much does Member+ cost?
New Members cost $ refer to current promo thread
Current members cost $ refer to current promo thread
TAX INCLUDED!
Will the Member+ cost be taken from my top up balance? NO, the payment info or credit card in your Ringplus account will be charged.
If I get a plan for which Member+ is a requirement then let the membership expire or cancel it what happens to my plan? YOU MUST MAINTAIN YOUR MEMBER+ MEMBERSHIP TO KEEP THE MEMBER+ PLAN! If you let your Member+ expire or cancel it, your plan will be changed at the end of the plan billing cycle to the current default plan, which as of this writing is the Truly Free Plan. This applies to Member+ ONLY plans, not any other non-Member+ free plans. Please also refer to this R+ Social thread by R+ employee [ringplus.net]
Back to Preamble

More things to be aware of
RingPlus MIGHT (or MIGHT NOT) cancel the service at any time (with account balance possibly being lost). Just beware of this possibility. However, please read this message addressing member concerns Karl, RingPlus CEO [ringplus.net] posted on March 14, 2016.
In 2013/2014, RingPlus canceled certain accounts (at random?).
Tip: You can forward calls from Google Voice to RingPlus. You would then only give out your Google Voice phone number. If something does happen, you would be less concerned about porting your phone number away from RingPlus.
There have been several temporary service outages in the last year.
To check whether R+ is experiencing problems please visit R+ Social forum [ringplus.net] and just above the list of posts on the right is a System Status button. Clicking it will show the status of various R+ systems such as Voice platform, Website, Dashboard, etc, shows past incidents AND allows you to subscribe to receive notifications of the various categories.
You can also check the Sprint Down Detector Map [downdetector.com] for Sprint outages in your area.
RingPlus does not have official smartphone apps.
Account management and usage information is provided through the website Dashboard [ringplus.net].
You can use the unofficial RP Samara Android app [google.com] to check and manage usage.
There is no traditional voicemail indicator / notification on the phone. Also, voicemail may not work reliably or as expected [ringplus.net].
Instead, you can choose to receive e-mail and/or SMS notifications. Text messages sent by RingPlus, and only these text messages, are free and do not use up your allotment. [ringplus.net]
For Android, you can install the R+Notifications app [google.com] to enable voicemail notifications. This app still requires SMS voicemail alerts. See app for details.
You can manage voicemails in your account on RingPlus website (no extra charge).
Tip: Many people forward calls from Google Voice to RingPlus. They would actually disable RingPlus voicemail and only use Google Voice for voicemails. Google Voice is considered highly reliable.
Roaming(on another carrier) is optional on all plans.
Roaming is back! Please refer to this R+ Social post on Roaming [ringplus.net]
Some people have complained about latency. Also, using Google Voice can introduce latency.
RingPlus CTO has explained that the RingPlus platform itself adds ~90ms (which is less than 0.1 second) on RingPlus Discourse [ringplus.net] and also on Reddit [reddit.com]. Any other causes of latency should be related to location, handset, and/or Sprint network/routing. [ringplus.net]
A WiFi call test, which goes through the RingPlus platform but not the Sprint network/routing, appears to confirm RingPlus CTO's explanation.
Many people do not notice any latency.
RingPlus has very little customer support although it is improving. One of the Member+ benefits is priority support. Refer to Member+ section for additional benefit and info.
There is NO support over the phone or by email. Support is provided by a Ticket system and live chat. [ringplus.net] Live chat is ONLY available between 9:30AM and 5:00PM PST, Monday through Friday.
It's best to file a Support Ticket before contacting Chat since they may require your Ticket number before rendering assistance, depending on the situation.
If you don't receive an automated reply then your ticket most likely did not go through. Check that the auto response isn't in your spam folder before submitting another.

Back to Preamble
More things to know
911 calls are routed directly by Sprint and bypass RingPlus entirely. No advertisement or "radio" at all. [ringplus.net]
The phone also roams on all available networks for free for 911 calls.
If unfortunately you are randomly assigned a phone number that receives spams, you can "Change Phone Number".
Some people sign up initially using an old or cheap phone (perhaps to "lock in" a good promo). They might then "Swap Device" to a nicer phone later on.

=========== Hardware you need ===========

*******PLEASE READ THIS THREAD ON R+ SOCIAL IMPORTANT ACTIVATION NOTICE REGARDING PREPAID PHONES*********** [ringplus.net]

Phones HAVE TO have been WHITELISTED by Sprint
For a phone to work, Sprint HAS TO have WHITELISTED the phone in a database.
You can know for sure and right away by checking your phone against the database at
https://my.ringplus.net/device_va...quests/new
https://swappa.com/esn
https://ting.com/byod

Make sure all 3 sites say your MEID/ESN/IMEI say that the device can be activated.
If DEC does not work, try HEX, and vice versa.
If the result is negative, and you suspect a temporary RingPlus error, you can verify if Ting's checker [ting.com] says your phone is compatible with Ting's CDMA network (but the phone will NOT work with RingPlus if it is only compatible with Ting's GSM network).
The whitelisting can ONLY be done by Sprint. People here CANNOT help.
Most phones that support Sprint's frequencies should work, including phones from MVNOs that use the Sprint network (e.g., Boost, Virgin, Ting, FreedomPop). Some exceptions include:
Walmart's Virgin Mobile Data Done Right (It works if you call Virgin Mobile USA and the rep releases the device. If the rep does not want to do it, call again and try someone else) [mommyweek.com] - Link Link Link
All BlackBerry, Palm, and Push to Talk phones
Some Nexus and iPhones that support multiple carriers should work. Sorry since R+ updated their website this link is broken. For now refer to the SIM Card Guide to see which of these will work & which SIM you need.
A new Boost, Virgin, or Sprint phone usually works (but do NOT open the retail packaging until after successful RingPlus sign-up): This will no longer be valid starting on April 17th, 2016 Refer to this https://social.ringplus.net/discu...ial thread
Thread listing some new Boost, Virgin, or Sprint phones
Best Buy - No-Contract Phones - Boost, Virgin, Sprint - Price Low to High [bestbuy.com] (please click on link to see what are available)
PrePaidPhoneNews [prepaidphonenews.com] usually has a "Deal of the Week" article. But prices fluctuate, and Best Buy (right above) usually has the best deal.
A pre-owned/used (i.e., previously "service activated", see below) phone might not work right away:
A previously (service) activated phone must have been active for at least 12 months.
Could only activate a certified pre-owned phone with Boost, but new phones activated fine with RingPlus.
Has to have been a year since it was first (service) activated.
A FreedomPop phone's ESN needs to be released by FreedomPop first
Contact FreedomPop and can take 1-2 days.
More specific steps
Successful FreedomPop to RingPlus transition [ringplus.net]
Sprint would not have whitelisted these phones in the database and they will NOT work:
Verizon-specific phones (e.g., Verizon Moto E)
GSM-only phones (unlocked or not), AT&T-specific phones, and T-Mobile-specific phones
"Inventory activation" is NOT "service activation"
When you buy a new phone, do not be concerned when a CSR scans a "Scan For Activation" barcode at checkout (or "point of sale") for theft control.
This "inventory activation" for some phones is actually necessary for Sprint to whitelist the phones in the database.
This "inventory activation" is different from "service activation" when a phone is running and is provisioned for service.

Back to Preamble
SIM Card (for a 4G LTE phone, if not already included)
RingPlus SIM Guide [ringplus.net]
A 3G or older phone does NOT require a SIM card.
A 4G LTE phone requires a Sprint or MVNO (Boost, Ting, Virgin) SIM card.
You should be able to reuse a Sprint or MVNO (Boost, Ting, Virgin) SIM card, as long as it was properly released by its previous carrier.
A new (presumably 4G LTE) Sprint-specific (including Boost and Virgin) phone will already come with a compatible SIM card.
Otherwise, see both OP and Wiki of thread with SIM card models and pricing info.
Either SIMGLW426C or SIMGLW446C will work for Nexus 6.
SIMGLW406R for iPhone 5. SIMGLW426C or SIMGLW436C for other iPhones.
Sprint SIM cards are NOT universal. Make sure you get a correct one.
Buying SIM card from RingPlus to "lock in" a promo:
In each "RingPlus forum topic" announcing a promo, you can usually find: "If you purchase a SIM during the promo, we will reserve your place as long as you activate within 14 days after receiving your SIM card."
However, you will probably need to contact RingPlus to get this processed after you receive your SIM card.
CDMA vs GSM, LTE, 3G, huh? [pcmag.com] Confused by it all? If you want to know more about cell phone technology this article might help make sense of it all. And why it's so complicated here in USA.

Back to Preamble
============ How things work ============

Sign-Up (to register a "user" (R+ uses the term member not to be confused with the Member+ program) and under it one "line")
Current Plans and Sign Up [ringplus.net]
For MEID/ESN, if DEC does not work, try HEX, and vice versa.
Be sure to enter ICC ID, which is actually required for most LTE devices, during sign-up.
Payment card:
RingPlus accepts credit, debit, and prepaid cards. A payment card must have been registered and personalized for verification (see below) [ringplus.net].
Beware that if RingPlus needs to charge a top-up but is unable to, RingPlus will suspend your service.
When you add a new payment card, you need to enter both "Card Holder's Name" and Billing Address.
Credit Card "Gateway Rejection: "AVS" [ringplus.net] Also, try your old address.
"Gateway Rejected:Fraud" -- Click Here & please try everything in that post.
Also refer to the RingPlus Knowledge Base - Registration & Validation [ringplus.net] articles.
After sign-up, you will have registered a "user" and under it one "line" (see below).

Back to Preamble

A "User/E-mail/Your Dashboard" can have multiple "Lines/Phone Numbers/Accounts"
A "user" (or unique e-mail login) has one "Your Dashboard", and can have multiple "lines" within it.
Each line (or unique phone number) is an "account", and has its own plan, its own monthly allotments, and its own account balance.
A person should not use more than one free line [ringplus.net] according to RingPlus CEO in 10/2015.
You may want to have only ONE line under a user and NOT "Activate a New Line", because you might only be able to add an e-mail once to an upgrade waiting list.
For each Line: Account Balance, Top-Up, (usually) Monthly Allotments
Except for the "Truly Free" plan, a plan typically requires an initial top-up (plus taxes and fees, see below), so that your account balance is more than $0.
You usually receive monthly allotments, depending on your plan, of: (x) voice minutes, plus (y) text messages, plus (z) MB of mobile data.
Monthly allotments are renewed every 30 days to the minute, with NO rollover.
You can track your usages (against your monthly allotments) when you click on a line in Your Dashboard.
But you CANNOT set a limit to prevent overage (while you can with FreedomPop).
When you click on a line in Your Dashboard, data is shown in GB, and 1 GB = 1024 MB. For example, 1200 MB is shown as 1200 / 1024 = 1.17 GB.
If you are still concerned, for Android phones, under Settings, Data usage, you can set warning and limit for mobile data usage.
Account balance is deducted for MMS ($0.04 per MMS or Group Text), International SMS, Overage, fees [ringplus.net] you to incur, and add-ons you buy.
MMS can be disabled when you click on a line in Your Dashboard, under Account Features, Manage Device.
Overage is typically 2 cents per minute, text message, or MB that you go over your monthly allotments.
SMS and/or Data can also be disabled, just like MMS, when you click on "Manage Device".
Fees are specified at https://ringplus.net/details/#pricing.
Canada is considered international, but almost all calls to Canada are free with Google Voice/Hangout [google.com].
Account balance does not expire and carries over to next month.
If a plan has a $0 Monthly Price (i.e., no monthly charge / "free"), you will NOT be charged again if your account balance stays above $0 (i.e., you will ONLY be charged if and only if your account balance drops to $0).
For example, suppose your account balance is $2.01, and further suppose device swapping costs $1.99. After you "Swap Device" to another phone, your account balance will be $2.01 - $1.99 = $0.02, and your credit card will NOT be charged because your account balance will still be above $0.

Back to Preamble
Taxes and Fees on Top-Up
For $x in top-up (or add-on), you are charged ($x in top up + $y in taxes and fees).
The $x in top-up shows up in your account balance.
The $y in taxes and fees show up once in your invoice. The taxes and fees do NOT recur.
Example:
Quote :
My total charge is $23.21 including the following fees. They showed up after submit my order. Now I am thinking: will I be charged these fee (excluding tax) every month?
State Sales Tax: $1.20
State Prepaid Wireless 911 fee : $0.38
State Restruct Mechanism Fund Fee: $0.16
Federal Universal Service fund: $1.35
Federal Cost Recovery Charge: $0.12
These are the fees for the initial top-ups. If you never use up your balance (i.e. get to $0 on your balance) then you will never be charged taxes again. They do not recur monthly. Every person taxes will differ depending on their state, local, 911, etc.
This example is in fact normal for the first month. No need to create a new ticket/post.
If you buy an add-on, and it costs less than your account balance, the cost will be deducted from your account balance. Otherwise it is charged separately and taxed:

R+ Dashboard tools & features
The R+ Dashboard [ringplus.net] allows you to manage your account, plan(s), device(s), and see how many minutes / SMS / MMS / Data has been used & is left for the billing cycle. It also contains a wide variety of tools & features such as; see your plan usage history, buy add on(s), view voicemails, set call filters, swap devices,, etc. You can have more than 1 line/plan under the same account/login.
Once you log into your account, you'll see tools to manage your social networks, activate a NEW line, RingPlus Deals, etc. To access most of the other the tools & features you need to click on the device name you want to manage/view. Many things are self-explanatory such as billing history.
If you swap phones the phone name won't be changed automatically but you can manually rename it by clicking on the device name you want to change, then hover over the old phone name until an edit button appears to the right of the name.
"Manage Plan & Add Ons" - view details about the plan & add ons, stop add on(s) from automatically renewing (basically cancelling them. If you have a special promo add on & cancel it you won't be able to add it back at the special pricing), change or cancel your plan, another place you can change your payment info (payment info can NOT be deleted, only changed),
"Ringplus Radio" - allows to to change what your hear during the ringback tone in addition to ads You can subscribe/unsubscribe from various genre of music &/or news. Tip: When you press 5 during the ringback tone you'll be sent an SMS (doesn't count against your allotment so it's free) with info & link to buy the product or get additional info & songs can be purchased from iTunes. This is what allows R+ to offer free/low cost service.
"Manage Device" - where you can enable/disable SMS, MMS & Data. it also contains your phone MEID / ESN, ICC ID, MSID and MSL. MMS are not usually included in a plan, they cost .04 cents each & the cost will be deducted from your top up balance. Group texts are usually counted as MMS, if you don't want to receive & pay for MMS you may want to disable this.
"Manage Apps" - Manage/set voicemail settings, Activate/Deactivate: Call Filters, Recall (Free to use on demand call recorder, record both sides of conversation), Phone Booth (helps know, limit & manage international calls), In-call translator (cost .14 cent per minute)
Listen to Recall recordings or view transcribed text. (Recall will also email you the transcribed result)
Voice mail settings also allow you to toggle to receive SMS and/or email notifications of new voicemails, allows you to give callers the option to send you an SMS rather than leave a message, ability to add an Emergency Redirect phone number allowing callers the option to be redirected to another number if there is an emergency.

============== FAQ ==============
Top up, what is it? Will I be charged a top up every month? Refer to For each Line: Account Balance, Top-Up, (usually) Monthly Allotments AND Taxes and Fees on Top-Up sections of this wiki.
What are some other charges I might incur?
Overages for minutes =.02/min, SMS=.02/each, Data =.02/mb, MMS =.04/each (group texts count as MMS).
Also, refer to the Additional Plan Details [ringplus.net], for costs for phone swaps, phone number changes, porting in a number, etc.
These costs will be deducted from your balance, once your balance reaches ZERO & ONLY when it reaches zero then you'll then be charged another top up (including taxes/fees).
My credit card won't work &/or it's being rejected, what can I do? Refer to the Payment section
Can I have more than 1 phone on an account? Refer to the "User/E-mail/Your Dashboard" section to understand R+ terminology in answering this question.
911 calls, how are they handled? 911 calls are routed directly by Sprint and bypass RingPlus entirely. No advertisement or "radio" at all. [ringplus.net]
The phone also roams on all available networks for free for 911 calls.
Why am I getting spam calls &/or texts and what can I do about them? R+ recycles previously used phone numbers so the previous user may have gotten that number put on a spam list. You can Change Your Number yourself anytime from your Dashboard. Currently, it cost .99 cents which will be deducted from your balance. You MUST have enough balance to cover the cost or the number change will fail. If your balance will not cover the cost, remember that a top up of any amount will be charged fees & taxes.
For spam texts you can block them by sending a text to 9999 with the word "block" (without quotes) followed by the number (ie, block 1234567890). You need to do this for each number so if you're getting them from a lot of different numbers it might be better to just change your phone number.

Activation (for service, i.e., provisioning) problems, if you do not get proper phone service
If a phone does not activate for service properly after powering on, try RingPlus' Help Center [ringplus.net].
In the Help Center, besides following "Typical Provisioning Steps", be sure to also check suggestions for your specific device.
If you have a 4G LTE device, you MUST enter the ICC ID during sign-up or "Swap Device".
Add Ons info
You can buy an add on if you want/need more minutes, text and/or data and don't want to pay overage charges. There are various options to choose from accessible from your R+ Dashboard
Add On(s) will automatically renew each month until you cancel it.
The cost will be deducted from your top up balance. If you don't have enough balance to pay for it your credit card will be charged PLUS TAXES/FEES
Add ons sometimes have special promo pricing & requirements. Please read the requirements carefully when purchasing a special promo add on since if you cancel it, change plans or cancel your Member+ membership you may lose the special pricing for the add on.
Member+ members have access to special deals on add ons that non-member+ don't have. It's one of the benefits of the Member+ program. Click HERE for info on the Member+ program.
An add on billing cycle is from the day your purchase the add on which may not be the same as your plan billing cycle. For example, you started your plan on the 1st of the month and it will renew on the 1st of the next month. You then purchase an add on on the 15th of the month, the add on will renew on the 15h of the next month.
What gets used first the plan allotment or the Add On? Per R+ The soonest-to-expire will always be used first Please refer to this thread on R+ Social [ringplus.net]
Upgrade Waiting List (for upgrading to a PROMO PLAN previously open ONLY to NEW LINES)
What is an upgrade waiting list for?
If you have already signed up (i.e., you have an existing line), you can sign up for an upgrade waiting list, so that the existing line can potentially be upgraded to a PROMO PLAN that was previously open ONLY to NEW LINES during a previous promotion.
For example, the Legends 1 promotion ran from 1/15 to 1/18. One promo plan was called Sammy Baugh, and it was open ONLY to NEW LINES (i.e., existing lines were NOT eligible) from 1/15 to 1/18.
On 1/20, an upgrade waiting list for Sammy Baugh became open, so that if you had an existing line, you could sign up and potentially be upgraded to Sammy Baugh later on.
If you just want to upgrade to a NON-PROMO PLAN, you do not need to be on an upgrade waiting list. Instead, simply click on "Upgrade Plan".
If your existing plan is "free", you must toggle "Next Billing Cycle" to Yes.
Currently OPEN upgrade waiting list [ringplus.net] (please click on link to see what, if any, is available and how to sign up)
Not all promo plans have an upgrade waiting list.
People do NOT know when/if/which promo plan or its upgrade waiting list will open or close, NOR when/if you will be upgraded.
To make changes, click on link in previous e-mail. Or, sign up again and click on link provided in new e-mail (may need to cancel and sign up again).
CLOSED upgrade waiting lists:
Goya and Dali upgrade waiting list has been closed.
Goya and Dali upgrade waiting list status [ringplus.net]
Leonardo 3 upgrade waiting list has been closed, and many people were upgraded on 12/31 (must login to RingPlus to see if you were upgraded).
Leonardo upgrade waiting list status [ringplus.net]
Upgrade top up charge:
As long as your account balance is not zero, you will not be charged if you "Upgrade Plan".
Official words from RingPlus CEO [ringplus.net]
As long as your account balance is not zero, you will not be charged when you are upgraded from an upgrade waiting list.
For example, you will NOT be charged if your already have a $5 balance, and the new plan requires a $12 top up.
Official words from RingPlus CEO
See http://slickdeals.net/f/8395159?v=1&page=59 and Wiki of http://slickdeals.net/f/8370473?v=1 for multiple confirmations of NO additional charges (when account balance is not zero) since 12/2015.

Swapping vs. New line Waiting Period
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=81018863&postcount=141
3-way Swap
Goal - swap 2 phones between 2 plans with aid of a 3rd phone or ESN which is inactive, and swapping can be done immediately without a waiting period. First make sure your RingPlus balance on each plan has enough to cover the swaps. In this example $4 on Plan A, $2 on Plan B. The plans do not have to be on the same RingPlus account.

Plan A - has Phone A
Plan B - has Phone B
Phone C is an inactive Phone or ESN

1) Plan A - swap from Phone A to Phone C
2) Plan B -swap from Phone B to Phone A
3) Plan A - swap from Phone C to Phone B
4) Phone C is back to being inactive

*Each of the 3 device swaps costs $1.99 cents each, so it costs about $6 to complete a three way swap as shown.

Canceling a free line ties up the phone until the next billing cycle if you are trying to activate a NEW free line with the phone, just as if the phone was swapped out of a free plan. Doing a device swap on a different free plan to the phone from the canceled free plan works immediately..

Much thanks to Rexman for this very helpful info.
Porting
Beware of likely delays if you port over a weekend or holiday. RingPlus does not work weekends and holidays, and supposedly porting is a manual process.
Porting times will vary greatly. My personal experiences from start of port until it is complete varied from less than 1 hour to 3-4 days (started on a Tuesday). If you start on a Friday or near the weekend, it will take longer due to the weekend and I assume some part of the porting process needing a manual component or something. Other posts in the thread also have similar experiences. If you have a problem in the process, it is usually user error, either you typo-ed or you have the account num, PIN, address on file doesn't match where you are porting from.
Tip: You may want to consider porting to Google Voice, and forward calls from Google Voice to RingPlus.

Gateway Rejected: AVS Please refer to this R+ KnowledgeBase article [ringplus.net] If you get this error please do as instructed in the link & do NOT keep trying repeatedly without finding out why the address is being rejected. If you do you may trigger the "Fraud" error which you'll just keep getting repeatedly & the only way to clear it is to wait several hours maybe longer before you can retry. So far the amount of time required to wait is unknown.
CSA error. Please refer to THIS THREAD or R+ Knowledge Base article [ringplus.net]

What is Surfing?

This is Data Experiment - Research Project.

This plan is one of the newest sponsored research plans from RingPlus.

By signing up for this plan, you agree to participate in this beta test which is researching the field of data compression, speed variation, and data stream sponsorships among other things. The goal is to research and produce the next generation of data delivery which will reduce RingPlus' data costs while delivering a good consumer data experience and more free data.

What is different? (Why is it a research Plan)

The basic goal is making your data last longer and to reduce data burn, without the cell phone user rely noticing it and opening it up for alternative revenue streams paying for the free data.

You know that many companies currently are playing with data manipulation and slower speeds for streaming (but still enough to enjoy the video) with better compression, throttling some times, and sometimes not, to reduce data burn. We will do the same with the addition to inserting advertisement by internet search, or an ad when you launch the browser sometimes from time to time.

The goal is to bring you to unlimited data usage by sponsored data.

from Surfing Plan 1:

https://social.ringplus.net/discu...esearch/p1

Here dismay testing results on both regular and research plan:
I have 2 LG Tribute 2 enrolled with 2 different plans. One is on the Double Commitment Plan (8000 MB) and the one is on Surfing Rueben Plan. Both test ran at 3:30AM

Here are the results:

PING: 56ms DL: 38.44 Mbps UP:14.17Mbps (Double Commitment 8000MB)

PING: 59ms DL: 47.36 Mbps UP:12.83 Mbps ( Surfing Reuben)

I didn't believe Surfing Rueben is faster than Double Commitment (regular full speed LTE). No slow sown at all. I made outgoing call. The call was clear. I couldn't tell the difference. I didn't see any throttle speed.(<<<===maybe it because the data research hasn't started yet)

if someone has experience with their research plans with adds while surfing i would like to hear about it.
adds are the most annoying thing in the world and i would not sign up for this even if they pay me. unless they find a way to do it properly but that is hard to expect because all add people seem to know is bombard bombard bombard customers with same adds over and over again and something will stick. no thanks
