** We would like to welcome HawiianDawn as the new OP **.

Please thank
thelahaiesfamil for all of her hard work in this thread.**

Being a military spouse has its many challenges. One of the challenges is trying to feed your family on a limited income. I thought it would be helpful to the many of us SD'rs out there that are military or military spouses to have an official Deca/ Commissary thread. There are so many great deals and YMMV by store, but at least here you may be able to look for a deal that you might not have known about before. I HTH someone save a little for thier family!! Enjoy! Smilie

Oh gosh, sooo easy!

You'll need one can of crescent rolls, powdered sugar, and (dare I say it?!) oil for frying. EEK! laugh out loud

I use a stainless steel pot and put about 2 inches of oil in it but you can use a FryBaby or FryDaddy.

Unroll the crescent rolls, separate the triangles and cut each one into 4 pieces. When the oil is hot, drop 3-4 at a time into the oil. They will puff up immediately and brown VERY quickly! Using a slotted spoon, keep flipping them for 2-3 minutes. Do not overcook. Drain on paper towels on a large cookie sheet. I put my oven on 190 and keep them there until all are finished cooking.

Sprinkle with lots of powdered sugar and enjoy! YUMMY!!!! Woot

And how about fried donuts from biscuits.....still my boys' favorites and they are in their 20's.
canned biscuits, roll each one out a little with my rolling pin, cut out the center--I use the center part of my vintage biscuit cutter--deep fry, also the donut holes. Flip a few times to cook evenly. get a can of pre-made milk chocolate frosting, put some in a coffe mug, zap in the microwave maybe 15 seconds, stir and use to glaze the donuts and holes, and my guys like sprinkles on them. When they were younger they'd make sure they each got a full 4 sets....now they can't quite get there. Got a request for those earlier this year.LMAO

Yummmm... OK, gonna try and write this out so it makes sense...

All you do is take a can of the Grands dinner rolls. I like the Buttermilk, Grandma likes the wheat.

Flatten the biscuit out (with finger tips is fine)

In the center, place a thin slice of cream cheese, Grandma likes to place cream cheese and a thin slice of ham.

Fold the dough over and seal it with a little water on your finger (if you don't, it'll open up while baking)

Bake as directed on the can (keep an eye on it, might be less time. I can't remember right now)

To get a nice golden top, you can whisk an egg and brush the tops before baking. You can also add sesame seeds if you like.

Food Recall Alert:

This just posted on FB page

Quote :
FOOD RECALL: General Mills is recalling a single days’ production of Almond Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars because of a labeling error. Whenever a commissary has a recalled product in its inventory, the product is immediately removed from store shelves, so DeCA food safety officials are working with stores to remove this product and are monitoring this recall for updates. The following product is being recalled: Almond Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars – UPC Code – 1600027706, Case Code – 1600027706000, Date Code 26FEB2013, this recall only affects 6-count boxes.
This action is being initiated because the product may have been packaged incorrectly and may contain allergens not listed on the box’s ingredient label, specifically peanuts. A product error caused Peanut Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bar packages to be inserted into boxes labeled Almond Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Granola Bars. This recall only includes 6-count boxes of Almond Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars with one Better if Used by date printed on top of the box.
The following commissaries have been identified as carrying the product:
In Texas — Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Randolph Air Force Base, Dyess Air Force Base, Fort Hood I, Fort Hood II, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Sheppard Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, Fort Bliss, Lackland Air Force Base, Naval Air Station Kingsville and Laughlin Air Force Base;
In New Mexico — Holloman AFB, Cannon AFB, White Sands Missile Range and Kirtland Air Force Base;
In Oklahoma — Fort Sill, Altus AFB, Tinker Air Force Base, Vance Air Force Base.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts or tree nuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume the recalled product. No illnesses have been reported to date.
Customers are reminded that they can always return recalled products to the store of purchase for a full refund.

MsGal-sorry you can't drink your favorite coffee anymore hug

Went by the commissary at lunch and actually found P&G inserts! Made up for getting shorted one when I bought two newspapers!
Jello Mixits that are getting the great reviews-probably should throw mine away are still 89 cents
Fisher trail mix small bags are still $1.23
Smart balance butter was $1.59 so worked nicely with $1.75 IP that I have had for a long time
Nestle Ultimate cookie dough $2.25-$1.50 IP- really should not have bought since I have no self control around cookie dough!
