** We would like to welcome HawiianDawn as the new OP **.

Please thank
thelahaiesfamil for all of her hard work in this thread.**

Being a military spouse has its many challenges. One of the challenges is trying to feed your family on a limited income. I thought it would be helpful to the many of us SD'rs out there that are military or military spouses to have an official Deca/ Commissary thread. There are so many great deals and YMMV by store, but at least here you may be able to look for a deal that you might not have known about before. I HTH someone save a little for thier family!! Enjoy! Smilie

Is Vitamin D still under $2? There is a coupon on c.c for $2/1 Vit. "D".
At our comm the price for the Nature Made Vit. D. 400 is $1.9X. I had the S.O lady check and the price is going down to $1.4X on March 16th. I wish I would of waited to print out the $2 q, Hopefully someone can make some O on it. It would be nice if it would reset.

Speaking of the Nature Made Vitamins, I can't remember it I mentioned this, but I've been having so much fun entering the Nature Made codes on their website. I have cashed in for three $7 Costco checks and two $3 Costco checks! It's a pretty nifty program. There are a lot of rules, but the payoff is awesome! I keep the bottles from the codes I enter and the receipts in case they ask for POP.

The comm had lots of P&G inserts out over the weekend! They also had 50 cents off one Frito Lay peelies on most of the bags of Frito Lay products. (long exp date)

There were three Mio flavors that were on sale for $1.4X. It's a super great deal with the $1.50 off any one Mio q's and a pretty good deal with the $1 Mio q's. I've seen these q's at several grocery stores. The flavors on sale were Orange Tangerine, Fruit Punch & Mio Energy Green Thunder. I got 15 bottles for less than 1X cents after surcharge. YMMV of course.

There were some other good q's too, but alas they are out in the car. I'll try to post them later. Have a delightful night everyone!

Possible Wednesday Closures at the Commissary

23 Feb 2013

It seems as though all we hear about lately are budget cuts. The discussion of closing the Military Commissary has been a hot topic lately, as Congress has had their eyes on closing the military grocery store for quite a while now.

While they are not looking at fully closing the Commissary altogether at this time (and I use the singular version to describe all of the Commissary locations, not just one), they are, however, considering closing the Commissary on Wednesdays every week from March 31 - through September of this year if spending cuts go into effect beginning March 1.

The closures will affect all stateside Commissaries as well as some overseas Commissaries. "While we still hope sequestration will be avoided, we must, nevertheless, be prepared and plan accordingly," DeCA Director, Joseph Jeu wrote. "Consequently, after much deliberation, analysis and consideration, we developed several actions that will reduce spending to the level mandated by Congress, should sequestration happen."

I am civil servant and if this happens it will result in a 20% pay cut for me.

If you printed the $1.50 Hazelnut Jiff coupon good time to use it -it's only a $1.99 at the commissary
9oz Kens Salad dressing is $1.00 so free after $1 mfq insert

Heard about this from one of the workers. Scott commy is open 7 days a week and I've always wondered why? I know it will end up in hours cut which sucks every way you look at it but the whiteman Commy has always been closed on sunday (or maybe it's monday) and though it sucked to have to go off base if you needed anything that day, in my mind i always thought it was nice that the workers had a day they could spend with their families. Anyway, Wednesday is a weird day to be closed. thanks for sharing

I wonder if Wednesday is their slowest day. Back in the day when I used to get out there more, they used have have special sales on Wednesdays sometimes.

Though it seems like Sunday would be a good day to close, but the Commissary is usually crazy busy on Sundays.

I haven't told anyone this until now but we found out in January that my husband, after 23 years of service, is being FORCED to retire. Yes ... FORCED.

A percentage of high ranking officers in the Navy (I don't know if if includes other branches or not), were told in November that they either have to deploy for 12-18 months or retire. Most of these guys (including my husband) are over 45 years of age and have already done many, many deployments throughout their career.

This was the Obama administration's way of forcing out some of the higher paid military officers and replacing them with Lieutenants. They knew most of these guys were gonna take retirement over deployment. We only know 2 guys that took the deployment and that's because they are divorced and their kids are grown. We still have a 15 year old at home and my husband said "screw that, I've spent enough time away from my family", and so, he's retiring. We don't have the exact date yet but his last flight is scheduled for next month.

We're so sad and so angry. His last extension here at this base guaranteed him flying orders for the next 5 years .... and then they yanked it away.

I HATE this administration. HATE!

Oh that sucks Msgal. This adminstration does not care about the military. They were doing that to the prior enlisted officers trying to get them to retire also. Here is your one year deployment or you can retire. I know they forced a lot of Colenols to retire last year also.
If these cuts were handled differently it wouldn't be that bad or if it had been implemented at the beginning of the year.

Damn MsG... I can't believe that! So many years of service from your Husband AND your Family so easily "FORCED" aside. We'll see what happens to our Military when a bunch of green newbies are in charge... but hey, so long as those that have put in the time, blood, sweat and tears are no longer getting their higher paychecks, all should be well. Facepalm

It's the same with the Army, or so I've been told. From what I've heard, they ARE going to cut about 100,000 positions; mostly NCOs. Evaluations are underway.

My Husband has 11 years in and was Commissioned last May. We're worried and praying that this won't directly affect us, but with this administration, can't hope for much. If he is affected, I'm sure they'll wait till he returns from his deployment to Afghanistan (deploys in Aug.) to let us know; wouldn't be surprised.

I wish you and your Family the best. A BIG hug from my family for saying NO to another deployment. Sometimes you have to say Enough is Enough! If we're not about our family, then whats the point?!
