Please thank
thelahaiesfamil for all of her hard work in this thread.**

Being a military spouse has its many challenges. One of the challenges is trying to feed your family on a limited income. I thought it would be helpful to the many of us SD'rs out there that are military or military spouses to have an official Deca/ Commissary thread. There are so many great deals and YMMV by store, but at least here you may be able to look for a deal that you might not have known about before. I HTH someone save a little for thier family!! Enjoy! Smilie

The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) faced a tough operating environment in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30 as sales fell by 4.3 percent.

Hmmmm...

Is it a coincidence that their sales dropped right about the time they scared many of the couponers off....
Coupled with the ID scanning...

I live about 20 miles from the Commissary, and if I don't time it right, I hit I-5 traffic.
I've been buying more unprocessed foods, and more organic etc, so I was already shopping those items off-base.
I also have a pretty decent stockpile for our small family, and drug store deals took a bite out of what I used to spend at the Comm.

I was shopping about once a month, and still spending a pretty good chunk of money, buying pet supplies and some random stuff with coupons that was a lot less there than in town.

Last fall, they closed the Commissary, and Costco welcomed us to shop for those few days. I have 2 Costco stores 5-10 miles from here (depends which direction I'm going).

Then they started the ID scanning, which I don't care for one bit.

Then Costco had the Living Social deal in the spring, and I finally joined.

This past year, I've probably been to the Commissary 4 or 5 times, and spent less than I used to on my monthly trip. Now, I'm upgrading cat food, so that won't even draw me back for a stockup. I'm about to the point where driving there is going to cost more than what I'd save by making the drive.

I think I've always had a little bit of a love/hate relationship with the Commissary. I've never really found it to be a pleasant place to shop (it has an atmosphere of unfriendliness to me) but back when we needed it especially, the prices were good. After 22 years, it was sort of a go-to habit. Not so much now.

Wow! Nobody has posted in here for a long time!

If you like PowerAde a WYB 10 get 5 free coupon has been found on base. One thing I find annoying is a local military spouse has been selling those TP coupons on her Facebook page. Looks like she took the whole pad-I was able to find some at the commissary that is further away. I just think making money off of TPs found in the commissary is bold, but I suppose if she was trading I would be ok.

Also in the June coupon connection they have $1 off wyb any one Fresh Express Blend or kit plus this is Mfq coupon.

I do agree that the deals are not as good and if I did not work on base I would not shop at the commissary. Really what I do is go by and pick up some stuff that I know is cheaper like paper plates as an ex.
$1 off Weber mfq is a good deal-the seasoning bottles are $1.39
.75 off Wishbone mfq is pretty good since they are on sale for $1.49

It's good to see someone posting here again! I still hit the commissary for meat and the items that are cheaper but only once a month or so.

I know I'm not the only one who doesn't go to the Commissary so much anymore (I went from generally once a month to now I'll stop in if there's something I can get a better price on there, and I happen to be that far north (about 1/2 hour from my house). I was curious, so I Googled:
