Amazon has discounted Dragon Quest 7 and Dragon Quest 8 to $35.99 (from $39.99).

I was able to get the price down to $28.80 (with prime) by opening up a chat session.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past - Nintendo 3DS [amazon.com] - Release: Sept 16, 2016

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King - Nintendo 3DS [amazon.com] - Release: Holiday 2016

BudCluck: I pre-ordered a game that was $35.99 and it did not give me the full 20% discount. I was charged $31.99 and it should have been $28.79.

Amazon: I do see that a promotional discount in the amount of $7.19 is supposed to be applied. However only an amount of $4 has been applied to your order. Shall we add a $3.19 promotional amount to your account?

20% Prime is suppose to be discounted from the MSRP, not at the discounted rate

strange, she asked her manager first, then gave me the discount

a couple months ago i grabbed a pre-order with the 20% off and when i got the game they automatically sent me an email saying the price had dropped and gave me a credit

I have a question regarding these games. I really liked DQ IX (I think it was) Sentinels of the Starry Skies. Are these similar?

yea, i played 9 first and i liked it so much i bought dragon quest 4,5,6 (old ds games) and all of them were fun

the main difference was instead of seeing your enemies on the map, they were surprise encounters so you couldnt really avoid enemies

these 2 games have been remastered for the 3ds so the graphics will be better than dragon quest 9

I've enjoyed the DW franchise for years (a bit sad DW4 never got a US PS1 release, it took me a few years just to get a copy on NES). Don't think I can enjoy these games like I used to even though I've played all the DS releases to date.

TL;DR version:

"Open a chat session with Amazon rep asking for something that is specifically not available and hope that they give you it anyway."

Not sure I'd recommend trying to cheat their system for $3, they do track requests like this.

You'd like Dragon Quest III. That's the game for you. It's very similar to DQ IX. Much more similar than the other DQ games. You can play it on an emulator or on Android/iOS.

Each game has some important differences. 3 and 9 let you make your own party to fit your style. The other games are heavily story based with pre-defined characters and more personal stories. 3 and 9 are more about the world and mechanics (creating a team and defining them yourself), where the rest are more about specific characters. 5 and 8 also let you gather monsters, Pokemon style.
