Editor's Notes & Price Research

The DT 990 Pro is an open dynamic headphone for studio applications. Soft headband and ear cushioning system ensures a high comfort over long periods of time; roust, easy servile construction as all parts are implacable. Lowest price we've seen on this unit - Discombobulated

Excellent deal. Probably the lowest it will ever get new.

Buy these!

100% worth it at this price. Most people will want a portable amplifier.

Damn this really is an all time low (typically $130 or so on sale). BUT NOTE this is a third party seller with a spotty feedback score. Man, Newegg is turning into worse than Amazon with these shady third party sellers.

Has anyone used these for mixing/studio applications, or are these primarily designed just for listening to music? I've grown used to mixing in my Sony MDR 7506s when I'm on the road, but I'd love to have an alternative set of cans to mix with when traveling. Anyone compared these with the 7506/V6 cans?

Let's be fair here. ClassyU was the seller of the frontpage deal of the Grado's about a month ago http://slickdeals.net/f/8997399-grado-prestige-series-sr60e-on-ear-headphones-60-more-free-s-h?src=SiteSearch which got 96 thumbs up and a bunch of satisfied customers, like me!

Also, their ebay page has over 1000 sales and a 99.9% approval rating (it was discussed in the Grado thread linked above)

Ditto what was said about shady third party sellers. The seller for these unusually low priced BD 990s has really spotty history and only last few transaction feedback viewable. I'd say steer clear. I received defective pair of much less expensive earphones I bought from 3rd party vendor several months ago. 3rd party vendor support was useless. Scripted auto reply told me to "reboot" headphones. I'm a long time newegg customer, NewEgg customer service had to intervene when 3rd party didn't respond, I got eventually refund but was dinged restocking fee. Newegg is indeed getting worse than Amazon about ZERO vetting of 3rd party sellers. I'd steer clear of these most likely when something is too good to be true - it is not what it's represented to be. These are probably refurb, knock-offs, or both.

I gotta ask. how do these compare to the HD650's, Hifi man HE-400i, and the AKG K7XX?

Wow, if you're looking for open cans and don't mind investing in an headphone amp, jump on this deal. I wish I could justify another set of open headphones right now.

I have the Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pros... how do these 990 Pro's compare? I don't understand what "Open Back" means--can anyone explain? Much appreciated!
