Home Depot and Lowes have their mulch on sale again for Labor Day. Your experience with them may vary. I purchased from both stores and both can be hit and misses in quality.

Home Depot (9/1-9/11):
Scotts Earthgro 2 cu. ft. Brown Mulch [homedepot.com] $2
Scotts Earthgro 2 cu. ft. Black Mulch [homedepot.com] $2
Scotts Earthgro 2 cu. ft. Red Mulch [homedepot.com] $2

Lowes (9/1-9/12) *apparently it's on sale now
Premium 2-cu ft Dark Brown Hardwood Mulch [lowes.com] $2
Premium 2-cu ft Red Shredded Hardwood Mulch [lowes.com] $2
Premium 2-cu ft Black Hardwood Mulch [lowes.com] $2
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I went through 60 bags of the Lowes option last year and would not recommend it. A third of the bags contained mold and had to be exchanged, upon exchange we had to go through two pallets to find bags that didn't have visible mold. The dye fades quickly looking washed out within a month to two. The worse part was the artillery fungus that began growing on our vinyl siding, it is near impossible to get off and is caused by cheap mulch such as this. You get what you pay for, buyer beware.
I am not sure if it was from the Lowes bags that I bought to fill in the spots that I didn't have enough from the Bulk Mulch I bought locally - but yes , I noticed getting more Artillery fungus this year.

Coincidence? Maybe not.

But then artillery fungus is not caused by 'cheap' mulch, it's caused by white-rotting, wood-decay fungus that likes to live on moist landscape mulch.
There are a lot of variables [psu.edu] that may cause artillery fungus.
Cheapness is not an accurate determiner.

I have always had good luck with the $2.00 a bag Lowe's mulch...YMMV
The coupon codes make the deal even sweeter at $1.60-$1.70 per bag
Mine has always held color and been consistent with color

Keep in mind this is $2.00 a bag mulch and have the right expectations
This is not primo mulch that is laid by professional landscaping companies, at high end homes and commercial real estate properties, and it is not as rich looking nor has as fine a texture

However..once its down it looks great and frankly most would never know the difference

Not trying to be a dick, but are any of the slickdeal deals available for Alaska? I thought that everything costs a buttload, and shipping is almost never free. Can you get $350 50" TVs shipped to home?

low quality (see every other previous mulch thread on SD).... if you're at the $50 or higher level, better off looking at your local landscaping / soil companies... and splitting a truckload with a few neighbors
