Thread Details

This new action cam by Garmin was just released today, and is already a lightning deal on Amazon. Retails for $500 and is on sale for $450. So 10% off for a brand new camera ain't bad imo.

I have a virb 1. Garmin farks up the design Everytime trying to make it do everything. but its not great for any one action activity. I bike and the mounting options are always shitty. they are not solid so they flex and bounce. the cam doesn't need an LCD. most people will use this solo while doing a sport. it would make more sense to wifi the display to a phone to check the frame. and battery life is shit on action cameras, 2h if you are lucky.

4k @ 30Hz puts this on par with the GoPro 4 but it's not worth it IMO

The VIRB Ultra is a way better camera than the first version. Sensors are updated, updated battery and a lot of cool tech features. Why do you think go pro is releasing a new camera with voice activation?? And with the garmin it's touch screen thru the case. Which go pro is trying to use this tech too. I own three go pros and I do use them and love them. But I also am excited someone is competing in the market as I have a lot of negatives with my go pro(s). I'll for sure purchase the new Garmin as it will also link with a lot of their other accessories (hear rate, watches,GPS devices, ANT+, temp sensors). At $499 it's a competitor. Oh and the built in GPS. Exciting product.

Have a Virb Elite, the only problem I have is once in a while it takes a long while to shutdown. Other than that I don't really see a reason to upgrade as mainly I am using the cam for safety for hit and run etc. I especially like the reflective display and the battery life of 2.5hours+ Well of course still not enough for my century rides unless I am carrying extra battery or a battery pack.
