Who the hell would suction cup their $300 GoPro to the hood of their car. Is that asking for trouble or what?

You're 100% right! I learned the hard way and luckily it was just a Session. I had tested on a stable car twice before but it will fall off if the car vibrates a lot. It basically oscillated off at 30mph!

I'll never mount externally without a tether or use a higher quality one.

I seen quite a few YouTube Car expert reviews where they attached the GoPro on an angle to see the wheel turn and acceleration. Pretty cool effect when doing car reviews nod

I dunno man, I've seen it done countless times and they hold up just fine. People stick them on the outside of airplanes too.

You didn't' clean the surface for sure or mount on a smooth part of your car. I've mounted my GoPro on my Moto and it has held up for trips over 100 miles going at speeds of over 150mph...

I had the battery and it really sucked, it actually drained the device quicker than the standard, and I ended up going with one of those battery 2 pack/charger combos that was FP a month or so ago.

I would and have. But not with the GoPro mount. I use a RAM suction mount. Tested on the road, autocross, and track. Although tethers are a thing.

run a tether for backup and your good, but ive tested it up towards 120 and it was fine with the actual gopro branded suction cup.

yeah the battery is garbage, it showed two batteries and it would maybe last another 10-15 minutes over the standard 30 minutes on my H3Black, it also caused the red light of death most times where i had to pull the backpac off, pull the back cover off, pull the internal battery out and then shove it all back together before it would work again.

yeah, and Im sure the people at Car and Driver would purchase an $11 suction cup for their tests. Also, paint finishes are different on all cars, going by age, quality, gloss, etc. My car is a POS with peeling paint, the GoPro is probably worth more nod

Luckily I got the backpac for only $8 on a clearance rack at target... now I know why it was on clearance.

Sort-of agree here. the battery is more hassle than the benefit it provides.
I got "burned" by battery in a situation where the room where i was recording and streaming live from was hot. The camera shut off at the worst possible time because it overheated. I'm pretty sure if the extra battery wasn't on it wouldn't have heated up as fast.
So like daewootech said, i had to get up on a ladder in this crowded place and pop out the battery to restart it. Worst of all was that I put the camera where I did because there was a power source there. The extra battery was there just in case.

yeah, unfortunately i bough it when it still was like $30ish and totally regret it., it just sits there now taking up room. now if you want a battery bacpac, get the Brunton that thing is a beast, i got the old "all day" back and it lasted the car drive from san jose to disneyland constantly recording. thats this one http://amzn.to/2bDwLQN

downsides are that you need to use it in a case, it replaces the back door of a case, and its not submerge-able so no diving with it, they made a waterproof "all-day 2.0' but its missing from their website for some reason.
