No need to wait for reviews near the end of the month for me this time. Chose: The Special Power of Restoring Lost Things .

Is it me or are others put off by Books labeled as # 1. Makes me feel obligated to having to buy however many will follow it in order to reach the ending. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)
....and btw, where are all the votes for this monthly freebie?? I had forgotten about it and would have missed it had I not been going down the list of yesterday's deals I had missed.....

Nobody has a thought on my question above?? Is it me or are others put off by Books labeled as # 1. Makes me feel obligated to having to buy however many will follow it in order to reach the ending

That's kind of the point. To introduce you to new authors. The first hit is free. And then you're hooked. Why do you think these authors "owe" you entertainment for free? Pay them for their work if you liked #1 for free and want to read the rest of the series.

I'm absolutely 100% with you on your thoughts about books labeled as #1. My thoughts: part of a book isn't a book....it's chapters. It should be described as "Chapter X to Chapter X" and IF the author is trying to snare new readers by giving away a free book then give them the entire book. I am a book enthusiast...I love finding new authors and I have found quite a few new authors due to the ones I have been able to read a complete book from them for free. I found more then a handful of authors which I have purchased several of their works due to their free book offering.
I tend to give it a week before choosing my Kindle First as there are those who like to be the first few to do reviews on the choices. I am hopeful there are a few more reviews on "The Age of Daredevils" as there are only 2 as of my post. I appreciate the persons who read the books quickly and post their (complete) reviews on Amazon. Note: I don't think there are very many authors who would appreciate partial reviews who give out free chapters.

I'm with you. When I see a book labeled as Book 1 I skip it. My reasoning is that I don't want to wait just to get a conclusion to a story I started. A lot of these series seem to be a cash grab and purposely put in cliffhangers just to get you to buy the next book. If it's good I'll just pick it up when the full series is out.

I prefer long series. How needy do you have to be to post back to back posts repeating your question? Also, if you are waiting on Slick Deals to remind you about these you are doing it wrong, as Amazon can do that directly.

Where did you get your idea above?? That is a ridiculous comment to make! I NEVER asked for nor expect things for free, otherwise I wouldn't buy for or pay for any books, much less anything else. look around

Their post was made AFTER your comment, you can't tie your comment to me about expecting free, to outrager's comment. Btw, I agree w/outrager. I tune out as soon as I see book # whatever, unless it is a known series, to be good. It seems to me this has become the trend, and while some may appreciate/like or be okay with it....there are others who aren't. Authors did fine selling their wares, without using the book 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 etc. tactic, imho.nod

@deedz2 The 1-2-3-4... tactic is a result of the $1 per song model of iTunes applied to books. We've been trained that this monetization model is the norm. Not claiming it is right, just how it is now. Chalk it up to the short attention span theatre culture.

And to be fair to the authors, why spend years developing a book when readers give up after a chapter or two, and then regret having paid for the entire book at $15 a pop? Instead, they can draft up "Book 1", and if it gets readership and market demand for more, then the author can invest the time in writing more. If it tanks, they move on to another story before wasting time in a book that won't sell. The "waterfall" method of book development doesn't work any more than it does in project management these days - not for the authors, the publishers, or readers. "Book 1" is to real books like the "elevator pitch" is to being on Shark Tank.
