You might be thinking of the 11-16. According to Camel Camel the lowest the 11-20 has been is $486 and that was in January:

Tried to post a link but the site won't let me.

If you think you're going to get an 11-20mm f/2.8 FULL FRAME lens for less than $500 you're insane... The front element would probably be 2-3x as big. LMAO

I got the 11-16 from a Gray Market for $350 off a deal here in October. Great lens. I honestly almost never take this off 11, and question how useful those additional 4mm are in field use.

Wow, excellent price. Bought this for $529 a few weeks ago and that was a good price based on prices over the past 6 months.

The lens scores better than the Nikon 10-24 and is almost half the price. The 11-16 is very comparable and slightly cheaper but I don't mind paying an extra $100 for a little more range.

I have only used it for a handful of shots so far but it's really nice. I bought the lens for night time landscapes and Milky Way photography but haven't had a chance to get far enough out to properly test it yet. The pull/push focus ring takes a bit to get used to, especially since it's the outer ring. I still tend to try and zoom using it and it takes me a minute to realize it's not zooming.

I debated about getting the 11-16. I read several reviews who said the extra range was worth it so I decided to spend the extra $.

Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. If there was a real sacrifice in image quality I'd be happy with the 11-16 but everything I read says they are roughly equal.
