Any alarm guru's out there that can answer this?

I have a vista 20p that I want to covert to contact a central station over the internet instead of phone line. Does anyone know how this can be done? Is there a device I can get to convert it that will let me program it to a central station instead of my phone or some other company that makes it?

I'm pretty sure this device [alarmgrid.com] is what you are looking for.

Thats what I was thinking but wanted to be sure before buying it. I seen some aftermarket things but it doesnt report to whoever you chose.

You will have two options:

Self-monitoring or Standard Managed Monitoring.

When looking for monitoring you will need to make sure they can receive the type of connector you are using for reporting. The device I listed *should* be what you are after but if you are looking for a service you can definitely confirm with them first that they will be able to monitor your alarm with that device.

Good luck.

Cellular monitoring is more reliable than internet monitoring. If you still want central monitoring you'll need a device compatible with your monitoring company.

Self monitoring is less useful and most devices aren't really designed for self monitoring. The EVL-4 is the best option for self monitoring.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?
Have you ever stopped to think the long-term GOP immigration policy might be to make the United States of America a less desirable place to live than Mexico?

Does the 4g cell just dial a number like a phone line does so they wouldnt even know or see if its compatible guessing that I can get around paying for the service without the station.? I dont know if you can get service on the 4g without the central station. They dont even know if they can support it and want to push DMP cell backup to me.

I think something like this [alarmgrid.com] is more of what you are looking for. Internet is primary and the 3G cellular service is the backup. My alarm is centrally monitored, so I don't know if you can have it report to yourself.

I currently have the 2G version and am being forced to upgrade to a 3G version. Alarm company is saying that in 2017, the older models will no longer be compatible because of FCC regulations.

No. They use data and only talk to honeywell's servers in the case of the products linked above and anything made by the alarm mfgs.

Self monitoring isn't as useful, but if that's the route you want to take you need something like this: http://www.eyezon.com/?page_id=176

Is there something like that, but with wifi connectivity? Don't always have ethernet available near the alarm panel.

cheap, fast, good - pick any two.

PSA: Yahoo email is extremely insecure...switch to Gmail if you can!! Hotmail is better but not as good as Gmail.

Not for self monitoring that I can think of. You can take something like an EVL-4 and hook it to a wifi to ethernet adapter, but you're just introducing more points of failure. Running ethernet usually isn't too hard.
