I'm new to buying knives... but I just need something sturdy for cutting vegetables like squashes, pumpkins, and cabbages, etc.

are the Victorinox knives better than the Zwilling that keeps popping up?

and which victorinox knife would you recommend me buying? The first deal looks like a better deal.

The 8" Chef's knife with the 4" pairing knife combo is a good deal. Both are highly rated budget knives

Awesome. I've been on the lookout for a Japanese chef knife. Pulled the trigger on the 8.25" Tojiro DP.

I heavily considered the Miyabi Fusion. I have no doubt its a better looking and better performing knife, and at only 80$ an incredible deal, but...

55.96$ shipped for the Tojiro is nice. The blade edge steel is the same VG-10 as the Miyabi but its encased in stainless rather than Damascus. While it might not look as cool, I think it will be a lot better for me for day-to-day use. That rust-resistance will go to good use in my house. I try to treat my knives well, but im not the only one that uses them, and sometimes shit happens.

Is there any free shipping on these orders anywhere? The 6$ shipping puts it back up to regular price on amazon.

Yes you can, as long as you have the blades wrapped or sheathed. Here's a link to checked baggage regulations on tsa.gov [tsa.gov]. Personally, I'd be more worried about TSA employees stealing nice knives than it being confiscated.

thanks for the info. Yeah, the place I'm going to (Philippines) is known for that and in the news for doing stuff like that.

these 2 are sorta redundant right? I prefer the Miyabi based off my 10 minute research..

Both are made from VG10 steel at ~60HRC, with the Miyabi having the 67'ish layers of softer stainless folded in on the sides for stain resistance; the Tojiro has two but it doesn't matter much other than the appearance. Love the look of the Miyabi but the Tojiro DP is amazing bang for the buck.

Santokus are typically a little shorter than a chef knife or Gyuto while having a taller blade making it better for fish and vegetables to make a straight cut or trace flat over the bones of fish with the broad blade. Cool
