I bought a refurb 7 years ago and it's still going strong.

I'm in the market for these, but can someone advise if refurbs are reliable for Dyson specifically? tia

Dyson is overrated hype, have a DC24 and OEM replacement filters are outrageously priced. Buy the aftermarket and they make the ball stop spinning when they get too hot. Simply rinsing a dirty filter isn't enough to clean it like they say. I bought a Hoover and it has more suction and it maneuvers better, not to mention the power cord is longer and the hose is longer. I've always found myself running out of power cord length or just couldn't quite reach thing high up like air vents with the Dyson. Save yourself hundreds of dollars and don't fall for a gimmick.

I have one of these Dyson DC33's and I love it. But what model Hoover do you have? I'm interested in trying one out to see how it compares. Thanks!

I loved the DC24 and if it were not for the fact that the motor filter got so black and rinsing it didn't make it clean again like they said I'd still use it. Used it for about 3 years but I couldn't bring myself to buy the motor filter for $29.99 a pop. So when I started buying the aftermarket from Crucial Vacuum the ball started jamming and we'd have to take the rubber gasket off the filter to get it to work again.

I ended up getting this Hoover from Costco for 79.99 a couple weeks ago, the filters are not in an area where they can make the wheels stop spinning. The suction is awesome compared to the Dyson no matter what some of the reviewers say, and I can take it back to Costco any time if I don't like it.

I have bought 3 dyson refurbs and loved them. My first was an animal that I bought 9 years ago and just replaced it about 2 weeks ago. My 2nd was this model so I could leave a vacuum upstairs. I left it when I moved but I had it about 4 years. I never had a ball until my most recent which is a cinetic ball which doesn't need filters. I had no issue using aftermarket filters with my first two. All 3 refurbs looked new on arrival.

be aware that the cinetic has issues because there is no pre motor filter. check YouTube for info, I bought one then returned it because I didn't want to deal with that mess. ended getting the dc33 from Walmart for 70

I think I finally need to retire my DC07 Animal. She served me well for 12 years and she still tries hard but it's time to move on. The timing couldn't be better and this looks like a slick deal. 6 mo warranty from Dyson followed by an additional 2.5 year warranty by the reseller (FWIW).
