Spend Another $100 and get a vastly superior 8xx series that doesn't require weekly brush cleaning to keep performing and has better suction and battery life than this.

Hey gaijin! I saw a bunch of your comments on the other thread, thanks to them, I bought my 860 last week Smilie

Now, I'm thinking of buying this one for mom in law. It's actually not just $100 difference. Using the BBB 20% trick, with tax the 860 costs around $400. Therefore this is $140 cheaper, out of a 250$ item.

Is it reasonable to go with this one? She doesnt have pets or anything so the daily cleanup may not be as dire as me. Thanks again sir!

No problem, glad you're digging the 8xx series Roomba, it's a great unit!

Any of the 8xx series are the preferred Roomba (avoid the 9xx, 7xx, 6xx, 5xx). It can be had for about $350-360 if you watch for deals and are patient (like two times recently with JC Penney, and the ones we got straight from iRobot closeout on the 870 in the first quarter of 2016), but yeah, if you're willing to pay more, you can get it right now at BBB with that coupon pretty much any time.

(Thanks for repping me to the 5800 mark!)

Haaa. Now I think you're working for iRobot Inc, particularly the department in charge of the 8xx, so screw the other departments (9xx 7xx...) Big Grin

Thanks again! I went with the 650 this time for my in law. I ll try it out first see how bad it is, since I can return it as well.

It's not so much that the 6xx series is "bad," it's just that it has so many disadvantages in maintenance, performance, and run time. The brushes are a pain to clean all the time, the suction is literally 5x less than a 7xx or 8xx, the waste bin is pretty small, and the run time on a charge is reduced.

But, if your mother-in-law has a small apartment and doesn't mind the constant brush cleaning, it might be okay for her.

We have this at the office and it seems pretty decent.

Does anyone know if there's a site that compares some of the newer models? I'm interested in the anker robovac 10, deebot, and ilife offerings.

Looking for cheapest possible that will do a good job on light duty (dust and crumbs) in a smallish apartment that's hard floors and one room low pile carpet.

I've got back and read some of your other posts on Roomba. Between you and internet reviews, I'm sold on the 8xx. Looks like I can nab a 860 if the 20% off gets applied for $360. You're saying that's a good price, in your opinion?

$350-$360 is a great price on an 860. With the 860 on sale at BBB for $449, $360 would be the price after 20%. But note that this is very YMMV because the coupon technically excludes roombas. However many, many people have had their stores do the transaction with the coupon anyway.

Just beware there are a lot of sites that compare them but they mostly or all seem designed around getting revenue through click through buying. They mostly just summarize the descriptions and maybe why add a little extra B.S.

Thanks for the specifics. Any idea of the 8xx is better at returning to its station? I need the 8xxx for the light towers that mark each room and allegedly help it find its base. Just wondering how effective they are I guess. (I returned the 650 because it just bounced around aimlessly and didn't find its base no matter how close.

Lighthouses are only available on the 880. The 805, 860, 870 only have virtual walls/zones. We don't have any problem with them finding the dock. Maybe you have some kind of RF interference that's confusing the 650?
