Amazon has the Philips Hue Wireless Dimmer Kit with Bulb for $29.77 normally $34.99. This is the lowest it's been for Amazom according to CCC.

https://www.amazon.com/Philips-45...dimmer+kit

These are great as the dimmer switch itself retails for $24.99 and is hardly on sale. If you're going to buy the standalone switch anyway, this essentially throws in a Hue White bulb for less than $5.

This kit can be used without the hue bridge up to 10 hue white bulbs. However you will need to bridge if you want smart phone control or control more than 10 bulbs. Once connected through the bridge, this can control the entire Hue family, not just the hue white bulb.
For people who owns the Hue ecosystem, I would buy this any day over the tap switch as you can use the Hue app to program the on switch with 5 different scenes (by pressing and cycling through).

Here's a review on the kit:

What else does one need for this? Or is this enough to use with smartphone / Alexa? (Yeah it's a holiday weekend and I feel a bit lazy to Google it...)

You will still need a Hue bridge.

For Alexa and smartphone integration you will need the hue bridge.

This kit can be used without the hue bridg up to 10 hue white bulbs. However you will need to bridge if you want smart phone control or control more than 10 bulbs.

You don't actually need the hub to use this, but you won't be able to use app/alexa to control it

This is a great price! I use these to replace (not physically, just place next to) the normal switches in each room so I can control my Hue lights with the switches, my Amazon Echos, or my smart phone at all times. Using the normal switches turn off the lights so you can't use Echos or the smart phone to control when they are off. It's also nice to use these where a switch is in a hard to reach area and you can put one of these in an easier to access place.

Only tangentially related but FYI: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hue/comm...d_3rd_gen/

Philips is dead to me ! My investment is small but my anger and dissatisfaction with these idiots is quite large. I don't see how they get away with their pricing and marketing practices. Their blue is purple - period. Haven't seen these new ones (haven't seen the 2nd gens either).

A plague on Philips !

Check out this Philips Hue Guide [meethue.co] for a quick overview of what you need to run these lights.

The dimmer kit would work directly with the bulb out of the box. So you don't need the HUB. Only if you need to program it, you will need the HUB.

If you need to install a new wall dimmer switch or you only have electric outlet, this would be a reasonable alternative at $30 since a good wall dimmer switch would cost about $20 to $30.

Also the switch is detachable as a remote. Just more flexible and convenient.
