This is a great deal IMHO, the lowest I have seen is around $75-ish on ebay.

I think this was $65 from Newegg recently, so this is a great deal.

Unfortunately, it seems as if they charge tax for California residents, even though the software is digital download. Newegg (and even Amazon) don't charge tax for downloaded software, so that eats up a bit of the savings for me. Still, $59 after tax is the best I've seen, although I wonder whether this will go lower after the new version comes out.

It depends what you're trying to do.

If you're trying to get a job doing Photoshop, or take Photoshop to its limits, then of course the answer is - only somewhat, and you'd probably be better off starting with PS. Someone can get started with PS Elements and adapt much of what they learn to Photoshop, if you don't already know how to use the various selection tools, layers, etc. The concepts and tools have a lot of similarities, more than other image programs, but there are also differences.

If you mean you want a tool you can use to edit images, then it's very useful.

IMO a couple key features alone may be worth it for some users. For example, if you're scanning a bunch of old photographs you may be pleasantly surprised at how much they can be improved.

- The auto-fix features are a quick way to enhance photos. If you don't like the results, undo them.

- The other super-useful feature is to adjust the shadows and highlights. That is, rather than adjusting the brightness for the whole image, you can adjust if for those areas separately. It can somewhat make up for unevenly lit or backlit pictures, and sometimes rescue an otherwise good photo.

I mention those both because they are quick and have a lot of effect, but also because they are easy to use for beginners.

Just be careful not to use a monitor with a bad color balance, if you're adjusting the color. Most windows laptops are somewhat off.

Note that Elements has different modes, one more simpler and another more complex. Use the one that suits your needs.

i would say yes and no......yes as it will give SOME of the basics of how to navigate and the principles of layering etc...plus it may do all you need it to

no as it is scaled down and clearly doesnt have the functionality as its much bigger brother...plus if you use the guided mode it you wouldnt learn much at all avout the actual photoshop

so yes and no but to sum it up its about as cheap as you'll find it and it even has elements (video)so why the hell not.....?

unless its changed the most notable feature missing is the ability to edit raw...i use lightroom my self for that....

This was $65 for the Amazon Deal of the day recently. I'm assuming one of the reasons we're seeing it cheap because it's about time for 15. 15 has NOT been announced, but the new version has come out every fall for quite some time. 14 was one of the smallest upgrades from 13, so I don't know that 15 will be a big upgrade. The newest version can usually be found for around $70 on black friday (for both photoshop and premier elements like this).

Photoshop and premier elements are perfect for my church and my wife. They're the home or even small business user who wants more features than Windows Movie Maker but doesn't need the full photoshop. We upgrade every 3 or 4 years and it just works. The Elements programs are more complicated than the windows 10 photo editor or Windows Movie Maker. Thankfully, there are lots of tutorials and stuff online and on youtube. The community support and tutorials set the Elements programs above all the other cheaper than photoshop programs.

At least the newer versions will edit RAW images but if I remember it's kinda a two step process to get the RAW images in there.

Nice review, purchased from Newegg a couple of weeks ago for 79.00. I thought that was as close to as low as it may go for the cd. I read somewhere if you download 14 and 15 come out within 30 days you can upgrade to 15. 14 has more than I can figure out right now. I obviously wished now I would have waited for this deal, but relatively a small lossed battle.
