deal [newegg.com]
$220 + free shipping

The FGX800C is the newer model of the FGX700SC. The FGX800C has scalloped bracing which supposedly helps with enhancing the sound in the low to mid ranges which should result in more bass & resonance over the 700SC. More info here [yamaha.com]

I was thinking about buying this after i saw the fgx700 was on sale. Is the 800 a big step up from the 700? I had my eye on the $599 Martin (was on sale for $449 this labor day weekend.) I want an upgrade from my guitar that has no pickup. Should i spend the extra $ and buy the Martin? Or this?

Martin makes nice guitars, I've owned a half dozen or so. The thing is, you pay for the "mystic", i.e. the name. Yamaha makes nice guitars too. You'll get WAY for your dollar buying the Yamaha. At least half the price of a Martin is in the name on the head-stock. Like I said, I've owned many Martins and none have been my favorite sounding or playing guitars. That doesn't mean the haven't been nice, it's just you don't really get a lot of guitar for the money, you get a nice guitar for a lot of money, but there are just as nice guitars out there for a lot less money.

As for the difference between the 700 and 800 Yamaha's.. not much at all. Go for the cheapest, they are almost identical.

Decided to go to guitar center today and try the guitar. I was impressed with the pickup after plugging it into an amp. I like the built in tuner. GC price matched. Thanks!
