These fans are hard to find discounted. For example the CL-3100 which moves 3100 CFM is only $640 + tax. Normally $799

Not as good as the last deal for the DIY gable fan but this one is easier to install and you may qualify for you're local utility rebate if they offer one.

I too, was able to get in a couple of those attic fans from Lowes for $35-ish each, and now have them installed (1 for each level of my residence), had been a great help keeping the house temp to about 10 degrees cooler eliminating the need to turn on the hvac.
This would've been a good option too, as, after reading something about those attic fans creating a backdraft effect within the enclosed attic surface (http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/blogs/dept/musings/fans-attic-do-they-help-or-do-they-hurt), makes me worry if my attic fans indeed were more harmful than being helpful?

People keep confusing attic fans with whole house fans. They are totally different. Attic fans are run during the day and supposedly keep the attic cooler which makes your interior cooler. Whole House Fans are run mornings or evenings to vacuum or warm air and replace with cooler ambient air.
