That Asus has a reference blower cooler, which is better for cases with poor airflow but is going to be louder and have higher temps that throttle the card for everyone else.

MSI has the best and quietest aftermarket coolers, followed by EVGA. Gigabyte's aftermarket coolers tend to be the loudest and hottest, but are still head and shoulders above any blower design.

this is entry level gtx 1070 no backplate and has huge gap where the plastic shroud overlaps the card where 8 pin connector goes in. the card is ugly as sin.

Just pulled the trigger yesterday on the EVGA FTW card. $388 after waiving the return shipping discount and SHOP10. No thanks on using a debit card lol.
Much better deal for the ~$25 price difference. OC'd to the max, ACX 3.0 cooling, RGB LEDs inside the case and on the logo. Can't wait to get it.

that card is FTW DT which failed the FTW tests so they rebadge it as FTW DT.

That's gotta burn.

Most 1070 OC to about the same level for now. I would go with the Windforce model over the blower design. $357 for a 1070 sounds just right.

It also looks like the card isn't factory OC'ed. For those that don't want to OC their own card, they might want to pick another one.

That said, why is these EVGA FTW cards so special?

They cost the same as a factory OC'ed card from other vendors. Is it the cooling system?

It doesn't compare very well, the Strix is a high end model, so it will command a 15-20% premium, for the price difference the Gigabyte is a good option.

Yeah they got me on that one. Effing Jet.com doesn't give you the item numbers so EVGAs scummy little trick of rebadging the low performing FTW cards as DT slipped right past me.
It still hasn't shipped, so I can cancel, but I think I might just keep the thing on order for the small price difference. I think the more robust designed PCB, the larger fans and the RGB lighting still make the card worth the difference. It may not be factory OCd, but I fully expect that it will bump pretty far. There are numerous reviews from others that have taken theirs beyond 2000Mhz. Unless the real FTW card comes available on Jet before mine ships, I will stick with it.
But, yep, it was a burn when I read the DT. Mad

The cooler is now designed to accommodate 2 x 100mm fans similar to MSI gaming x/z thus making significantly less noise than the average card with 92 mm fans like the gigabyte gaming. Note how FTW cooler is wider than the pcie bracket. There is also the fact that the cooler is mostly made of metal as opposed to plastic. Then there is the RGB, additional vrms etc.

As far as overclocking, most if not all cards no matter the brand/vendor should be able to clock past 2000mhz so as far as performance there will not be a tangible benefit unless you go with a water cooled card or something that can drastically lower the temps which is by far the most limiting overclocking factor.
