Problems with posting caused several duplicate threads

swechsler 1,594 289 September 8, 2016 at 11:15 AM
The site looked like it had crashed when I tried several times to post a new thread. It apparently worked, though, since I see there are now several dupes. Could a mod please remove (or merge) all but the latest with this subject:

Dell Outlet for Work: $500 off Latitudes and Precisions $1000 or more; other discounts as well

or similar; they're not all exactly the same but they're all from me.

No problem Smilie I removed the first two since there weren't any comments or thumbs up/down in those and left the third.

Meant to add, if that ever happens again, you can always mod alert one of the duplicate posts to let us know and we can take care of it right then for ya.

I can't seem to post a new deal. After hitting submit, the page sits at "Waiting for slickdeals.net" then eventually times out. I try resubmitting endlessly with the same results. I can reply to an existing thread with no problems and obviously, this new thread worked just fine. I just can't post a deal.

NVM. Just checked my PMs. It's because it was a KS. It would be helpful if there was an error message explaining that instead of just having the page timeout. It would spare a lot of confusion.

This also happens a lot when I preview or post a deal. The page just hangs and takes forever so your not sure whether to hit submit again or wait it out. What's strange is normal surfing of the site works fine.

If you remember, can you provide the sequence of steps you took to get that to happen?

Things of interest are:
Internet connection you were on (cable/dsl/etc)
Device/Browser (desktop/laptop/tablet and which kind ideally)
How long it took to write the post (approx minutes)
Any attachments?
Any coupon codes added?
Anything else that's special?

We are probably going to set up a temporary testing forum and ask if you and others having this issue can try to reproduce it reliably.

Thus far our efforts have not led to even being able to reproduce it once....

It only happened for about an hour or so; since then everything has worked fine. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact error message I got, but it might have been "request timed out". Not sure, though.

It is possible that the problem was due to all the formatting included in the original post (which was copied and pasted directly from Dell's website). What I did was:

Click on new post
Enter title
Copy text directly from the page I linked to in the post and pasted it into the text window
Added a few lines at the beginning including a link back to the page
Choose a keyword
Click submit

The problem happened with Chrome on Windows 7 enterprise. It only took a minute or two from clicking new post to submitting it. I might have also tried IE, but don't remember for sure. This happened while I was at work. I'm not sure exactly what our internet connection is, but it's at least 1gb and I didn't experience issues with any other sites at the time.

You have been invited into a testing forum to help us troubleshoot the issue. Go ahead and try to reproduce it, and if you get it, please post here.

Don't worry about posting too many things there, it's an invite-only forum that just folks who reported the issue can access.

Just tired reposting the same thing that failed for me earlier, and it worked fine. I'm going to assume it was a temporary site issue.

I can't reproduce the problem right now but here is a screenshot with what is and isn't blocked in noscript and ublock origin add-ons in Firefox 48.0.2. In Ublock the pluses means allowed and minuses mean block. In Noscript the red 'S' means allowed. Keep in mind Noscript blocks other things like XSS. I also have the browser set to block 3rd party cookies and pop-ups. I'm using Avira free anti-virus with Windows 8.1 firewall and my browser is running sandboxed in Sandboxie.

Just to be clear the hanging only happens for me during the rare times I post or preview a deal. Normal replies don't seem to be affected. Traffic could also be a factor.
