Is what is depicted in the blue illustration feasible? An ordinary fan won't displace air all over? ??

It circulates the air in a room by directing streams of air, bouncing off walls, spiraling stale warm/cool air into the mix. Useful for large rooms, aimed up stairs with windows open, garages, etc. But if a cheap fan works for you, save the money. I've owned four different Vornado's. After buying some other brands like Utilitech, I'm not sold on paying for premium high priced Vornado's any longer for my uses. Vornado's do last a heck of a long time running 24/7. None of mine have failed.

I've had the tower for about 5 years now and use it every night. They're definitely quality products. Not sure about this model, but the tower isn't much more...

Not very loud at lowest setting, and can push a decent amount of air from 10-15 feet away. Pointed right at you (or even better, blowing across you), this will keep you somewhat cool from across the room.

Setting 2 is audible, but would be acceptable as white noise to 95% of people out there. Significantly stronger breeze than setting 1.

Setting 3 and 4 are strong and very strong, but also loud and MUCH LOUDER, respectively. I never use these settings.

Big caveat with this fan: power button is electronic, not mechanical, so you couldn't plug this into a smart home-style power socket to turn it on or off remotely. Also, when you turn it off, then on again it defaults to high setting for some odd reason.

If this fan would get an update with a mechanical switch to turn on at a specific setting, it would have my full approval. For now, I just let the fans run all day long and accept that it's costing me ~$.18 a day to do so.

I'm guessing because it's a decent well-built fan that's a lot better than the Honeywell lookalike's?

These are OK for in the house, but I have grown to prefer the $50 Lasko fan at Sam's (looks a lot like the old Lakewood fans). Not all that pretty and quite loud (the anti-Dyson in all respects), but I'm good with that when I sleep. Plus it moves enormous amounts of air. I wouldn't put anything less in the garage or on a hot patio.

I have some old Vornado fans too (10D and 12D), which were made in the 1950s. Beautiful old fans that also move a lot of air. I just don't trust them to leave running when I'm not in the house.

How do you define better? Actual data shows that they don't move significantly more air and actually have a worse CFM/db rating than the honeywell.

I don't know if we're referring to the same fan but I was thinking of Honeywell's HT-900. It's cheap and gets on FP every time but that fan really isn't all that great. Obviously it's a $10 fan vs. even the smaller Vornado 530 at ~$40
