The SOG Micron Tanto Folder is an excellent little knife for EDC. Paid $12 for my last one, so $8 and free shipping is a no brainer. I've had nothing but good luck with SOG. Good quality stuff.

SOG appeals to low budget tacticool fans. There are some gems, but quality is all over the place in their product line.

Fixed Blades - Inexpensive, solid, full tang construction for most. Best examples: Pentagon and Seal Pup.
Axes & Tomahawks - Great durability and price. Excellent for anyone interested in throwing as the handles are nigh indestructible.
Responder Bag - Functional and basic. Goes for about $20. Too small for a complete bug out bag. I use it to carry magazines and ammo and a small medkit.
Innovative Spirit is an instant Survival Spear.

Avoid the Wally World line of machetes - very thin and weak.
Folders - Weak locks and some very questionable surfaces for grips.
Serrated edges have limited use and are unforgiving if dropped or grabbed wrong.
Fixed blades have balance issues and lack handguards e.g. Pentagon
Low budget steel and materials (7cr13, AUS-8, etc).

In Depth:
Finally something I can comment on! Background: mainly an eskrima/arnis/silat practitioner and edged weapons instructor but also a beginner blacksmith.

I've owned quite a few SOG products over the years mainly due to budget constraints and the tacticool appeal. Then I grew up/got a job/could afford better knives. As commonly stated here SD are not just about price point but about quality.

Some things you should know about the SOG brand:
All parts are made in Taiwan, China or, for more expensive blades, Japan. They're only assembled in the US.

7CR13 / AUS-8 / 440 is low budget steel.

Although SOG stands for Special Operations Group SOG knives are not endorsed by any LE or government organization. SOG is know for their replicas of military knives as well as marketing that some are exclusively made for LE and SOG operators. In all my years of training and instruction I have NEVER met a professional who touts a SOG. Normally custom jobs are in use along with Schrade, Cold Steel, KABAR, Kershaw, Spyderco even CRKT. You might ask about Benchmade but no, most of us would rather put that money to another firearm platform or rig or even ammo.

Nuts, was hoping to find the SOG Flash II. Had one, lost it a few years ago. Served me well as a carry-around utility blade. Particularly liked that it had an aluminum handle as it provided good balance and gave the knife a gratifying sense of "heft" compared to the ubiquitous nylon handles on so many cheap knives.

Good deal on the Vulcan Mini black. VG-10 blade for $80.

The Ops fixed blade is good for $60 too, but not as big of a discount on that.

Only one I had the folding mechanism came undone and the knife fell apart. it seemed good quality until that...only used it about 6 months at that point.

Just bought spirit, spirit 2, fixation dagger, fixation Bowie, 3pc outdoor kit axe entrenching and saw. See this as a good starter as I don't have any large basic fixed blades that are going to get used heavily. I own a few brands ka-bar, crkt , gerber, smith and Wesson, kershaw. SOG peaked my interest bc of the price points. I own I few other items from SOG being led flashlights which are surprisingly well made. Decided to give the knives a chance
