Thread Details

Here is my experience with using Newegg 30-day pricematch over chat. I was trying to pricematch with Newegg itself and in about 15 days from order date (Newegg promises 30-day at least when the order was made).
I think it will be interesting for many slickdealers. Of course the amount of pricematch is little, I actually didn't expect this to take more than few minutes. Definitely didn't expect to share my experience here.
This is copy&paste from chat (my name is removed, no other changes):

Kayla L.: Thank you for your patience while I looked into this. As we value your business, I am willing to issue you a $2.00 Newegg gift card. The $2.00 Newegg gift card will be emailed to you within the next 2 business days. The gift card will expire if not used within 90 days. You are unable to add a promotional gift card to this order because it has be shipped out. I truly apologize for the inconvenience.
Agent Kayla L.: I hope your understanding.
Agent Kayla L.: Is there anything else I can assist you with today?
Customer: This is a very strange pricematch, sorry
Customer: why does it expire in 90 days?
Agent Kayla L.: I truly apologize for the inconvenience. It is our rule. I hope your understanding.
Agent Kayla L.: Do you have any other questions?
Customer: No I don't understand this. It was pretty clear on Newegg website, that there is 30-day pricematch policy!
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

ssd drive. no, promotional giftcard mentioned in chat came half a year ago with a physical giftcard, I just forgot to apply it on last order. That is my fault and thats understandable newegg does not want to change payment method, I am rather sharing pricematch experience.
The new price is 2$ lower without any gift card.

I am not understanding what your posting. the gift card mentioned was what they gave you as a price match. What you added just now sounds like you paid with a gift card. Also sounds like the purchase did not cone with a promo gift card.

did you pay with a gift card? If so all companies can only refund to a gift card or to the gift card you paid with. This would be standard. the expire in 90 days is not standard of course.

I have a similar experience.. They will try to somehow negotiate for price match.. Then will always reimburse with 90 days validity gift card only even if you have paid it with a credit/ debit card.

Moreover the executive might be from some other location/country who will not be able to see the US deals for price match from other sites saying they are not able to see the said price online.

It doesn't matter how you pay. They do NOT refund/pricematch to your original payment method. Only with giftcard that expires in 90 days. May be thats fine for you, for me that seems awful. I'm grad its only 2$, so I don't really care. I'm glad I only have 5$ giftcard left from Newegg, cause I'm not dealing with them anymore.

not fine with me. this is helpful what you posted but your op was not clear. Adding that you paid without a giftcard and both the original item and price match did not have a promo giftcard would make this clear.

Thanks for the heads up on their price match policy.

Are you serious? They have fantastic deals sometimes and you're willing to throw them under the bus like that. Is it spelled out somewhere that NewEgg will adjust the difference to your original payment method? If not, then they can do it however they want.

I agree its a bit harsh to say never again but what can you buy with free ship for a couple dollars? You would have to hope they have another deal you want in 90 days. Not a true price adjustment in my opinion. I believe other retailers like walmart and bestbuy don't say they will refund to original payment method either. Anyway its really odd but at least newegg did match in someway. if it was amazon you would be out of luck.

I will still be working with newegg in the future. just good to know if its not the lowest ever I need a plan to burn the small price match gc that expires in 90 days.

Don't remember any 'fantastic deals' from newegg. No its not said they will adjust the difference to your original payment method. It would be even fine if they give giftcards without expiration date, even 1-year is OK. But 90-days???
This is actually 2nd time I tried to pricematch with them, 1st time I was told that they don't pricematch to that particular merchant. I just returned that item to newegg.
So for me their so-called 'pricematch' simply doesn't exist. I don't feel like spending all next 90 days, trying to find smth I need to buy at newegg.
I had to pricematch one time with Bestbuy, they did it even though it was past 30 days and later it was found that I was NOT eligible for pricematch.
Newegg policy now says '14 days'. So once again their 'pricematch' is just a fake (at least for me).
Everybody has different levels of crap one can accept, I'm not persuading anybody for anythingWink Though experience shows, if lots of people doesn't say 'No' to smth, we may start seeing the same policy at other stores. Its totally up to you what you will vote with your money for...

FYI: Its over a week since I submitted pricematch request, also contacted newegg via chat. Have not got even that crappy giftcard. Will not waste anymore time on this.
