It's regional, much like I had never heard of Rite Aid before or Giant Eagle or Smart and Final :-)

Grocery store like Safeway, but more like a Target or Walmart in terms of selection of other items like clothes and stuff.

Probably easier to just say it's a regional version of Walmart. Because they pretty much carry the exact same stuff, and the buildings are about the same size.

I don't think it is though IMHO. I don't find the same type of grocery items at Walmart that I do at Jewel (Albertsons) or Safeway. I can't go to Walmart or Target without an extra trip to a grocery store. I can with Meijer. But that is just my opinion. Smilie

In terms of looks and layout, they are the same. Produce, grocery, meat, and bakery sections take up one side (1/4-1/5 of total) of both stores and are about the same size. In terms of clothing, hardware supplies, toys, they all sell the same crap. The only noticeable difference is the weekly grocery/produce ads which can make some Meijer food significantly cheaper from week to week. Wallyworld barely ever has any real sales--just low overall pricing, which is easier. That and I don't feel nearly as depressed walking into a Meijer.

Yes, if I want to maximize produce savings, I'll go to Kroger/Kessel or Meijer instead--but you can get the exact same produce at Walmart (albeit more expensive vs Kroger/Meijer sale pricing).

So I stick by the claim that if you've seen what a Walmart looks like, you essentially know what the inside of a Meijer looks like. Target on the other hand is very dissimilar to both Walmart and Meijer. Target is smaller overall, and the grocery aisles are significantly smaller. And there's absolutely no produce/bakery/meat sections to speak of.
