Plex-perts I have a question

I bought a Synology NAS last Xmas and have just gotten around to playing with it.... I also installed PLEX on my Samsung smart TV.

It seems that I have to create a media library WITHIN the Plex directory on the NAS and that it CAN'T browse outside its own root directory to an existing library. Is that correct? For example:

Root
- directory 1
- directory whatever
- PLEX install
- - movies
- videos

In the above, the PLEX config lets me configure "movies" as a library but I can't even browse to "videos".

If so that sucks.

EDIT......

I can find the directory in question ("videos") but when PLEX scans it, it doesn't find any videos.

I don't know anything about Synology NAS but that is not right. Mine is set up:

/path/to/plex/install
/path/to/movies
/path/to/tv
/path/to/music

There is no media in the plex install dir

Sounds more like a permissions issue. Check the UID that plex is running as and see if you can view your media as that user

Of course is possible/likely that I've misunderstood

That was it. Logging into the Synology frontend I see the "plex" user didn't have any permissions to items outside its own directory structure!

Nice catch, never had that happen to me. From what I've seen you can create a plex library link to any share that you can see on your LAN. My plex install runs in a FreeNAS jail, and then I manually added my FreeNAS shares in completely different directories and mount points.
