Comparing 2 similar Acer models:

Newegg model: E5-575G-52RJ (currently $450) -- the one on this thread
mechanical 2.5" HDD (open M.2 slot)
no DVD drive (dummy cover)
4-cell 2800 mAh battery
no backlit keyboard

Amazon model: E5-575G-53VG ($550)
M.2 PCI-E SSD (open 2.5" slot)
8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer Drive (M-DISC enabled)
6-cell 2800 mAh battery
backlit keyboard

Surprised the reviews are as bad as they are. Scary since I was looking to buy a similar one (E5-575G-53VG).

This laptop looks to have been previously a front page deal at $465 and before that in July was posted as a slickdeal at $485.

Previous thread someone mentions that it has an empty bay where an optical drive, another hdd, or standard 2.5" ssd can be installed. Also has an empty m.2 ssd slot if you want to add an ssd that way.

Definitely considering this laptop but worried about about screen quality and has only one video output that is an hdmi port.

Anyone know if this can be used with 2 external monitors?

Anyone know how the Docking Connector this laptop has can be used? I haven't found any information on this connector.

All you need is USB docking station.
It will support up to three (or two depends on model) monitors plus will give you up to 5 USB ports, network port etc etc. All it takes is just one USB port on your device. Everything else goes thru docking station.
Bought one for my wife workstation and it takes only few sec to switch between laptops and surface pro. 2 x 24" monitors plus device screen.
Will cost you around $35 used or open box on ebay, $55+ on Amazon.

It's got VGA too, though it seems pretty downplayed as a feature these days. Obviously, that's only really good for up to 1080p, but for that at least it works well.

Interesting thanks, I just noticed the VGA port in the photos though I couldn't find it in any of the descriptions/reviews for this Acer model online anywhere. 1080p monitors are what I currently use so using both the HDMI and VGA ports for 2 external monitors might be fine if that would work.

Hmmm, been looking for a laptop for my dad to replace his junker Toshiba from 2012 with a low end AMD processor. It's deathly slow, and while he doesn't do anything intensive (word processing and heavy email), it's still hardly usable. This may do the trick, though I suppose it wouldn't hurt to look for something with a smaller SSD drive.

E series is an entry level - plastic shell, non IPS screen, no touch screen, a bit heavy and thick... Good specs if a desktop budget replacement. An SSD will definitely help. 1-2 hour battery life while gaming. 3-4 otherwise.

does anyone know of a good deal on a refurbished laptop. I was looking and the lists are endless but it's hard to know if they are even usable. I mostly care about price, don't care about screen quality.
