1) They are not WiFi enabled so you need to wire each camera to the VR. If wire is cut, no live view or recording will be done.
2) The VR needs to be close to the router for remote viewing. Does anybody hide the modem/router in the house?

Are thieves so dumb or am I missing something about these?

Why would you want wifi besides not having to run wires? Wifi cameras such indoor and outdoor. The drop in resolution and frames per second from hard wired to wifi makes the hardened option the better long term security solution. If you take your time doing a clean professional install no wires will show. You can punch through wall so only camera is exposed. If they damage the camera they have a nice close up on footage.

Personally these cameras and dvr and nvrs suck.
You get what you pay for. These are cheap budget kit cameras. Do a little research, get some commercial cameras, better brand, go with nvr, larger storage , domes cameras instead of cheap entry bullets , get 2.8mm lenses for wide angle vs 4 or 6mm crap. Either do some research or talk to a security professional

You realize that if someone cuts your cable line the mobile live view is kaput anyway So it doesnt matter where the modem/router are.

Also if you are really worried about someone knowing where your security system is that you can use a second router to do a wifi bridge then place the system anywhere in the house ( It's what I did because I had too much already plugged into my router.
