So, no Amazon 5% cashback this year, it's Drugstores instead.

Discover has Amazon on lock until end of the year. I always go to CVS so I like it and CVS will help round out the gift card holiday shopping.

RiteAid with Plenti offers might also be something to keep an eye on.

I've added the link to the list of merchants for 5% categories as well as those for which 5% won't work. In summary:

Merchants Not Classified as Department Stores:
Target
Walmart
Kmart
Discount stores such as TJ Maxx
Electronics stores
General merchandise and Variety stores

*****The Department Store category does not include supercenters, discount stores or specialty stores (i.e. stores that sell primarily one line of products such as shoe stores, pet stores, electronics stores, clothing stores); if a merchant is not on the list, you will not earn bonus rewards. Department Store gift card purchases outside of the specific Department Store are excluded and will not earn bonus rewards. Please review the list of merchants for merchants included and merchants not included in the Department Store category. For more information, please see Chase Freedom Frequently Asked Questions.
******Does not include merchants that sell a wide variety of goods including prescription drugs and over-the-counter medicines, supplements and various health-related items, and which may contain an onsite pharmacy, for example, warehouse clubs, discount stores, or grocery stores. For more information, please see Chase Freedom Frequently Asked Questions.
****Does not include gas, fuel, wholesale club specialty service purchase such as travel, insurance, cell phone and home improvement. Check with your local wholesale clubs to see if your Chase Freedom card is accepted. For more information, please see Chase Freedom Frequently Asked Questions.

As an alternate Discover is doing amazon both in the current quarter AND next quarter.

Use the chase freedom to purchase a sams club gift card...it's usable at walmart and will get you the 5% back. Always useful to "top off" the $1500 in spending towards the end of the quarter. As an added bonus you can do that for the current quarter NOW. Finally the gift card can be used to purchase fuel which is normally excluded from the 5%.

Any chance they will do double cash back again this year? I would buy $1500 in Sam's gift cards at 10% off.

Does the 5% cashback work on ALL purchases at the specified store type, in this case CVS? I didn't realize they had gift cards - sounds like an easy 5%.
