Decent printer. Best price for new right now. Yes it has been cheaper. But if you are looking for one right now, it's the best price you'll get.

Agreed. I missed the $279 price by a day. I ate difference and paid full price because I really wanted to get started and I still think it's a great deal at the regular price. You can't get near the Monoprice printers' price point/feature list for a (mostly) assembled 3d printer. Now that I've cut my teeth in printing, I'd like to build my own eventually.

Well... that's not quite true. You can get better, with enclosure, for a bit more. Or you can get a slightly smaller build area for a bit less.

It's been $284 a bunch of times, like yesterday, like new open box but I've been waiting for something down in the low $220s. The world of 3D printing has been rapidly changing and $280 is no longer particularly cheap for what it offers. Just as many companies called consumer 3D printers dead, it seems 2016 is finally the breakout year for consumer 3D printers.

Kit or assembled? I gave up on ABS until I get an enclosure. The only ones in the same range as the MP printers that I've found were the Davinci ones.

EDIT:
You're right, ghost. Warehouse deal has it at $289. Tax for me kills it though:

Davinci, yuck!

Assembled. They are Makerbot 2X clones. Enclosure and dual extruder for $370. $330ish if you buy by tomorrow. Or free depending on how good you are at rolling ebay GCs in the next 2 days.

Firefox and no-script plug-in take care of that issue pretty well. Add the ghosthery one if you want even more power.

Only thing about the Warehouse deals listed is the fact they are used and repackaged. For a machine that needs to be very precise, I would not want to take the chance of getting a unit that was "played" with and possibly damaged in a way that is not noticeable until you start printing. I would spend the extra money for a new unit in this case. For other types of items, Warehouse deals would be fine.

Ah... this is a 3D printer. The current state of which requires that you tinker with it even if brand new. If you can't or don't want to tinker, then a 3D printer new or used is not for you. Even fresh out of the box new, you'll have to tinker with it and adjust it to get your first print.

Speaking of which. Here's a PSA. These printers have been "recalled" due to a fire hazard. This isn't one of those send the printer back to the manufacturer recalls, it's a you should fix it yourself recall. If you don't feel confident doing these types of things, don't get a 3D printer.

I saw that on hackaday. A pinched wire certainly doesn't seem worth shipping the entire thing anyways. I'm installing an ANSUL fire extinguishing system for this printer and my Note 7 charging. Seriously, I'm just waiting for my call to get recalled for a faulty fuel system. Everything I own can burst into flames.

Yea so that is incorrect the V2.1 model does not have a recall that was for the model last year. That said this model is amazing right out of the box but only gets better if willing to get modding. Personally I am so glad I made the impulse buy. The only mod I had done when I printed the stuff below is a glass bed I had made at my local hardware store. http://www.angrygaming.org/spideryoda.jpg

Here's the one that came out yesterday. It's more strongly worded than the last one probably because there has been a rash of people posting that their Wanhos AKA Monoprice Maker Selects have been smoking in the last few days.

"This is a notice for all owners of the Wanhao Duplicator i3 V1, Duplicator i3 V2, Duplicator i3 V2.1, and Duplicator i3 PLUS. We are advising to temporarily power down and discontinue use of your 3D printer until you are certain that you are not affected by the following safety notice. "
