Sounds good and all but I don't know how to install nor do I want to pay a professional more than the system costs for installation. My $199 security system turns into a $700 expense.

Are these relatively easy to install yourself?

easy?

well, can you drill through masonry and run wires? if that's easy to you, then yes this is easy because that's basically all an install involves. Smilie

Although 8 cameras is a bit ridiculous.

Why is 8 cameras ridiculous? 6 outdoor bullets and 2 indoor domes. If you don't want to use them all, then don't, or get the 4 camera package for $100 less

once you start seeing all the blind spots after setting up the cameras then 8 cameras doesn't seem so ridiculous. I had 12 on my old system and there were still blind spots. each side of the house needs 2 minimum. on my garage there is one pointing straight out to the driveway. one at one corner going left and one at the other corner going right. that is three right there. One pointing down where somebody would he standing at my front door. One looking back at the door and down the side of the house. One shooting from the side of the front door and towards the driveway. So that's 6 cameras and I still have 3 sides of my house to cover

I missed a key word in my statement... ridiculous "for me"

I live in nyc. the houses are attached. four cameras would cover everything unless i started doing roof surveillance too

there's a huge discussion on here somewhere about camera tech and which one everyone is just re-branding. I think the generally notion was that these pre boxed sets are all crap from a price:performance standpoint

good point. Probably more secure that way.
