If the center screw does not provide a ground due to old wiring code these are a very bad idea to cheat the ground plug depending on the equipment used. I've personally seen cable modems burst into flames from a difference in ground potential using one of these "cheater" adapters. Best to call an electrician to update your wiring. That said, these might serve a purpose for brief supervised use like with an inverter.

cheater plug smh, useful for finding ground loops in home stereo equipment, not permanent solution

I use one of these to plug a power strip which I have my laptop, Xbox one , and lcd computer screen connected to. It's probably risky but I haven't had any issues in over a year. Even during blackouts where power completely shut down and powered on later. Everything worked fine after
