Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem SB6182

Link [statestreetdeals.com]

It is the same supplier whom we all bought SB 6180, 18 to 20 months ago.

I was looking for new modem and it is same as 6183 so I ordered it, got it and installed on Time Warner Cable. it works flowlessly just give them the MAC address. for 21.95 it nothing goes wrong for very stable Modem.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This looks like the older generation of Surfboard modems.

Thanks, OP. I went ahead and ordered one. Will be nice to have as a backup for myself and the rest of the family. The SB6182 is supposedly compatible with most cable networks that I and my family use.

From reading around, this seems to be more like 6180 (i.e. 8 channels down) than the 6183 (16 channels down). Seems to have a smaller foot print than the 6180 and a few other tweaks but other than that, same functionality as the 6180.

I have this on my mom's TW computer. I got her a new one a few years ago. It worked for awhile now she doesn't get wireless in her home. Of course TW won't help because she owns it. I have no idea how to check her settings. I can get to the modem website, but what should the settings be? Thanks.

Maybe I need a new router but hate to get her one if all I need is to change settings.

6182 is the same modem spec wise as the 6180 (an 8x4 channel modem), only smaller.

this refurb 6182 is black which mean it's pulled out from service. You may not able to use it with your network because the unit could still be registered to another person's account.

You can get them for $16.99 Refurbished from Amazon [amazon.com] or $17.99 used, I think I would go with Amazon if I were to get one at all.

You're wonderful. Thanks. I can actually get in to where the settings are, but don't know if current settings are correct and just don't work and I need a new modem or if I need to change the settings and if I need to change settings, I don't know how and what to try to see if I can get it to work.

If I call tech support, I would have to pay to talk to them so that's no help. Perhaps I can google or there is a message board somewhere.

Thanks again.

If I have 50 down and 5 up internet, is there any benefit to getting the 6183 over the 6182?

Most likely not. The 6182, assuming it does have 8 down channels, should be capable of 300mbps down. Even if it were to drop and re-assign a few channels while running, you shouldn't notice it. My SB6141 is 8 down and runs fine on the 50 down / 5 up (which runs at 58 down and 6.25 up).
