Do you think it'd drop more later this year? I have been waiting patiently for one for my next build.

City Skylines is the only game I know that supports Hyperthreading.

Probably a bit. The 7700K is rumored to be shipping to OEMs already.

If your in no hurry black Friday is around the corner. Possibly could dip lower. Or small chance you work retail you could possibly qualify for Intel Retail Edge program.

Thank you. I will wait. No, I don't work in retail so that option is out.

Im in the same boat, I want to starting purchasing for my next build, but Im curious what the Kaby Lake will cost (all components; cpu, mobo, ram) compared to this CPU and it's components.

Currently still using an i5-2500k and GTX780.

Time to upgrade

Thanks. Got one. Unless of course newegg prices it $250 tomorrow, but newegg needs to hurry as Monoprice return may not be as easy.

Not really, this is probably as good as it's going to get. Instead of them clearing out older components, they're usually just phased out slowly (especially with Intel cpus and motherboards) . For example, a couple of systems I have are 4th generation intels (ivy bridge). I was going to upgrade one of them from an i5 to an i7 and transfer the i5 to a lesser system. Also wanted to swap out one of the motherboards to a z77 one. I never saw any real deals and in fact never saw the prices ever drop on i7-3770k chips ever (even at microcenter). Now those items are next to impossible to find and if you do, it will be super expensive. Even if you find some of that stuff used it may just be cheaper to build new with the current generation. Kind of crazy how that works.

I wouldn't assume any massive cuts in price. You have a perfect way to test it - look at pricing for 5th Gen processors. They really aren't that much less than 6th.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the price for the 6700K will be lower than this in the next couple of months. And if it does drop this low I sincerely doubt it will be lower than maybe $5 off this price.

this cpu can be overclock? hows the performance?
Depends on your set-up (cooling) and your chip. It routinely gets north of 4.5. Pretty safe to say that you'll be at least up 4.2.
