This is just a Kuna light minus the light. Way too expensive for that.

Yes the reviews do seem to be pretty good! I wonder if it's water proof though. My hunt for a doorbell camera has not been going well. Ring is not that great and the monthly fee + no local recording is a cash grab. Skybell works well for me but is not that great quality. hopefully this is a good solution.

HSN also has tax in CA, so it would be the same price as Newegg, but HSN has 30 day returns, while I believe Newegg charges restocking fees. Home Depot has it for $199.99 + tax but has either 30 or 90 days to return.

Edit: $20 off at HSN using coupon code: 162217

Curious, do you have the classic Skybell or Skybell HD? I heard HD was leaps and bounds better than the classic and is in the same playing field as Ring. I have a Ring and like it... the subscription-based service does turn me off a bit but I feel it may be worth while for me.

As far as the Toucan, interesting idea - I like the fact that they power it off existing light fixtures. I don't think this would work that well in my case, since the only light fixture in my front porch is an overhead recessed can. Since I'm in a condo, I'm pretty sure the HOA wouldn't allow installation of a light fixture on the outside wall. It would be interesting if this could actually be installed overhead next to the recessed light. It would basically give an overhead view of the front door/porch but probably wouldn't be great for seeing faces, etc. And I think guests would probably get freaked out if you started talking to them from above LOL

I had the Skybell 1.0 and now use the 2.0. I also heard the HD is better. I wonder if I should get that instead of this Toucan..... what are your thoughts?

I usually turn off the Ring subscription service and turn it on for only a month if I'm on travel or vacation that month.

I guess it just depends on your needs. But since you already have a Skybell installed, it seems like it would be easier just to get a newer one, assuming the mounts are exactly the same, and screw the new one in place. Otherwise, if you get the Toucan, you'll have to mount it near a light, drill more holes, etc... I still like the idea of video doorbells at the front door too. These sconce cameras, IMHO, are better for backyard surveillance or supplemental surveillance for the front porch/door area. The other nice thing about the Skybell is that there is current integration with Smartthings, which is great. I can't believe I'm pushing Skybell but own a Ring LOL. I just wish Ring would hurry up and get on the boat with ST integration... at least they have IFTTT - I currently have my front porch light set to turn on at night and overnight if motion or a ring are detected. It works pretty well. There's about a 5sec or so delay, which also mimics someone making their way to the door to turn the light on.

Yea, that makes sense... it's only a few bucks for the month so I think that's pretty fair if using it on an as-needed basis.
