I just used the freeman kit to lay 1500 sqft of solid wood floors. Dependable kit for a DIY-er. Decent price although I think it might be a bit cheaper at Amazon for the 18 gauge nailer

This [amazon.com] is the Freeman flooring nail gun I have and recommend for the DIYer. It shoots 16ga cleats (vs lighter 18ga for most of the ones posted here) and can be picked up for $150 just about anywhere. Once in a while you can grab a refurb model for $120 [bigskytool.com] (or less when there's a coupon to go with it).

18ga is for harder, more brittle woods... 16ga tends to too-easily split anything harder than oak in my experience.

Maybe, but the Freeman PFL618BR should be fine for the majority of oak/maple/hickory boards.

Also, looks like Amazon just dropped it to $135 [amazon.com]. If you're in the market, I'd be all over it at that price.

What are your thoughts on this one?
https://smile.amazon.com/Freeman-...B004FP99GC

I've been watching it for a while, and like that it can be used for either flooring or finishing; since I have an air compressor, but no nail gun. I'm just a DIY-er, and both will see light use for other than some projects (flooring being one of them).

You need an air compressor. It's for doing hardwood floors.

Well, it can shoot staples & brad nails, but it cannot use L-Cleats. So, if you are OK with using just staples/nails then get it. If you want to use Cleats then skip.

I think that the "Freeman Pneumatic Ultimate Flooring Nailer Kit (UFK1012) for $189.88 [homedepot.com]" is a great deal if you are in the market. The two items sell for about $120-$140 each. And the included cleats & staples are worth at least $15. So you are getting a decent discount in buying the kit.

I bought the Freeman 18ga to nail 1200 sq ft of bamboo. Did a great job once I bought a compressor that was able to maintain operating pressure better than my 2gal.

Good catch. Ty sir. I'll likely use cleats, so this won't work for me.
The HD kit you linked me is showing $349 now Frown
ETA: Looks like all the deals are dead?

Yep, looks like the promotion is over at HD. However, the Freeman PFL618BR 3-in-1 Flooring Nailer [amazon.com] is still $130 on Amazon if you are interested.
