Does this model tell you the distance you just ran? I need a cheap Fitness Ban that tell you immeditately the distance you have just ran. Thank you.

That's the old style chest strap. It has poor reviews based on comfort.

the vivofit and vivosmart models do not have GPS, so it guesses the total distance ran based on your arm movement - obviously this can be off, by a lot sometimes

it also does not track the splits of mile-to-mile, etc.

it also cannot use a footpod (the vivosmart also cannot use a footpod)

so for serious running, it is not a good device

for occasional not-serious running, it is fine

note it is bigger/heavier than the original vivosmart

for serious running, look at the 620+HR strap deal for $100 or wait until black friday for even better deals

ive read that the separate chest strap HRM is preferred by pros for overall best accuracy and such...

That's not what I said. There is this one and a newer fabric one. The fabric one, which I personally own, is far more comfortable.

Since I couldn't see if it specified, this is probably the 1st gen vivofit, which came out early 2014. There is already a gen 3 vivofit that has almost been out for a year too. Not saying gen 1 is bad at all, just be aware. Also as someone pointed out, this version of hr monitor is not as comfortable as recent iterations. If it's not comfortable, you may not even use it.

the fabric one can have huge hr spikes due to static from your shirt rubbing on it. happened to me almost every cool dry day until I switched back to the plastic.

the cloth straps also wear out after a year or 2 and won't transmit hr anymore

Any recommendations for a better heart rate monitor at close to this price? I have read that Apple watches and all wrist style HR monitors are pretty poor compared to chest straps. Trying to find something for Crossfit where accurate HR monitoring is needed.
