Thread Details

When browsing the Target website today, I noticed an interesting price shift when pricing out iPhone 7 models. It seems that when selecting a Verizon model, and opting to pay full price with a 2 year service agreement contract, the price of the phone is dropping by $500. Here's the interesting part -- This is WITHOUT trading in a phone.

This is in effect a $500 subsidy for signing a 2-year contract with Verizon. I realize the trade-in of an iPhone 6 to Verizon nets $650 over 2 years, considering you can still go sell your iPhone 6 for well more than $150, isn't the $500 cash subsidy a hotter deal?

I have not confirmed this yet with a Target rep or store, but if true, and you were planning to be with Verizon 2 years anyway, I would suggest looking into this as the better deal for an iPhone 7 for 2 years with Verizon.

If anyone else can confirm, please do so, as I will likely return/rebuy my iPhone on a Verizon plan at Target instead of taking it to Cricket. A $500 subsidy gives me an extra $20 a month to work with towards a monthly service bill and could be the cheapest way to get an iPhone on one of the Big 4 carriers at least currently.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I'm not trolling, if this is a bad deal please delete my post. Why the TD? Did I misinterpret Target's deal?

it was the same at BestBuy.com last week....

I don't know why Verizon is offering such a huge subsidy
for the 2-year contract pricing. (for those who are still
eligible to buy it with 2-year contracts)

It's just the old $199/2yr contract deal that used to be standard on all carriers before they implemented all these complicated payment plans.

Although $550 after the termination fee (plus whatever taxes and fees to have the line for a few days) might be a slickdeal.

What you are seeing is the subsidized price on contract. It does not mean the iPhone is being sold for ONLY $199. It means it is $199 downpayment and you are on a 2-year contract with VZW. This has always been the case with all new iPhones.

It's not $550 ETF. It shows as $350. Combined with TMobile port in ETF coverage, this could be slick.

Could you please explain how it would work?

I'm really sorry everyone. I seriously wasn't trying to mislead. I have been looking for a better deal than the trade-in deals with the "Big 4" on this phone and I didn't see anyone that wasn't requiring you trade in an iPhone 6 to get a better price on the 7. I thought the $500 credit and being able to keep my old phone was actually a better deal than saving $650 but having to hand over my old phone.

I also realize a 2 year contract stinks. But it's the same 2 year lock--in deal as taking their "free iphone" for trade-in I thought.

If I were going to Verizon, I'd take the $500 and contract and sell my iphone 6 privately instead of taking their "free trade-in" deal is all I am saying. Unless I'm missing some fine print.

1. Signup for 2 years on VZW. Pay $199 + taxes.
2. Wait for 15 days (Target has 14 or 15 days as the return period).
3. Port out to TMobile.
4. VZW will send a ETF bill. Pay it off and submit it to TMobile and they will give you $350 on a mastercard. Source: http://www.t-mobile.com/offer/swi...n-fee.html

Important Notes:
1. Once you port into TMobile, you are supposed to turn in the VZW phone. You can turn in any phone you want. Do NOT turn in the iPhone. It's yours now.
2. You would need to get a phone from TMobile. They have some ok ones between $50-$100.

At the end of the deal you should have an iPhone 7 for like $199+15 days prorated VZW service+TMobile phone cost.

This gets way better when BB has a $1 contract amount on iPhones. I am waiting to do this on the 6S Plus.

Edit: Credit goes to SDRebel for explaining this whole thing to me on another thread a month or two ago.

To clarify everyone The plans cost $20 more with 2 yr contract .. that's $480 .. so it's not really a subsidy... but if ETF is $350 and u pay $200 down .. then get into contract and cancel within 3 days .. pay etf + down payment $550 and get a new iPhone 7 .. will be slick ..

you cannot get a line with a 2yr contract with verizon unless you have an old plan
