Thread Details

NewEgg Ebay has the MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GD5T OC card on refurbished directly from msi for only 209.99 + Tax in states that apply. Make this sweeter if you have Ebay bucks.
Even Refurbished on neweggs own site its $240

Ebay Refurbished 970 = 209.99 (sweeter if you have the 6x ebay bucks going around)

New From Amazon Msi
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-96...B011S6GUCQ ($305)

The only other thing I can suggest is that the AMD 480 is only about $50 more and is a solid card. But This card is actually going into a build for my wife so I doubt she needs more than 1080p/1440p (if this helped please rep thanks)

Still $30-50 too high to be worth it. 3GB 1060's can be had at the same price without looking, and 6GB cards for slightly more. Factor in the newer architecture and power savings and it will last a lot longer.

Completely Agree, though for someone looking to sli, this is a solid upgrade and can give that boost for the future.

Best I can tell, this was the lower bin of the MSI cards.

the Gaming 4G had better silicon, had better factory OC and seemed to do better.

If it were an MSI Gaming 4G Twin Frozer I'd bite for about $175, but for this one at this price, I think I'll pass.

Fair enough. But then I have to point out that SLI for an older card is just doubling down on obsolescence and terrible performance per dollar.

For example, a 970 in good condition could probably still fetch ~$150 used. So why spend $210 for a 2nd one to SLI when you could sell your first one for $150, and then have $360 to start cracking at GTX 1070 range, which would be an immeasurably better setup than 2 970's. I can understand SLI being decent performance/$ out of the gate, but after a generation shift it gets exponentially worse.

Eh, hard to say. I tend to think it is situational. If its only gaming that your after two 970's are generally speaking going to get you more bang for the buck if you already have one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb2nw6Sz4kY have a look at this and you will see the 970 sli at stock beating out the 1070 in almost every field. But than add to that the idea that the 970's are actually beast overclockers vs the 1070 which will get you marginal gains and in my book at least i'd say if you have one 970 for 200 dollars to get better performance than a $370 card thats a fair trade. Than wait for awhile and sell both cards and buy a 1080ti if its worth the price. I will say though if this is a first card go for a amd 480, the 1060 is not able to sli so its a dead product in my book and the 480 crossfire can best the 1080 in quite a few titles and is only marginally under the 1080 generally speaking. Don't get me wrong the 1080 and 1070 are amazing bang for the buck, but I am what you would call a poor man gamer. I know that a year from now you can sell these cards for $150 and have 4k performance for 200 bucks if you already have a 970.

At most its a $90 a year difference for most people. I don't get it. Seems like a drop in the bucket considering my power bills are over $101/month in the winter and over $210/month in the summer. Just think of all the money the hard core gamer saves from not having a girlfriend

Good thing thats irrelevant for probably 99% of slickdealers. We dont care about power usage, usually, unless we are berating AMD and then we suddenly do. LMAO

When the Chinese do something about the ever increasing smog issue over there, we will limit ourselves to only 1 GPU. LMAO

You're not going to convince anyone to not run SLI under the guise of the "environment" LMAO

Got to say I agree with this here. My own personal SLI configuration of 390x crossfire only runs me about $40 more a year but i'm doing well at Gtx 1080 speeds. As for the environmental stuff the inside joke is that its "everyone-mental" When our governments stop hindering the growth of actually eco friendly power and electronics i'll jump on board. But currently they are just lining their pockets with the cashflow from patsies that buy their crap.
Electronic car? Seriously everyone who ever had a cellphone knows that batteries die and don't hold up and less than 10 years down the line everyone will need to replace their batteries that needed coal or nuclear to power them in the first place further adding to the landfill. I am Eco holy complex does not look good on anyone. Just my opinion.
