Bought one of these about 4 days ago and love it.
Opens when i pull up to the house (sometimes with a small delay).
Closes if my wife & my phone leaves the house (also with a delay, i have to trust it when I leave, but i also get a notification).
I have it also automatically closing at 9:30 at night regardless because we kept leaving it open over night.

Paid ~87 bucks then and now the morons over at Amazon won't price match anymore. Ordered a new one and returning my current one out of spite.
I thought about this too and decided to pull the trigger on this and glad I did for a couple reasons.

1. My z-wave hub (SmartThings) recognizes it as a garage door and it is only one item on in my things that works as a door sensor as well as a garage door and switch.

2. There are separate open and close functions. Because of the interaction between the open sensor and the device, it knows if the garage is open and I press open on my app, it does nothing. If you put just a switch in place, you will not know this.

Also, this comes with the door sensor as well ($20 at monoprice) so if you were to add that to your $30 switch, for a little bit more, you get more flexibility.

Do you need one for each door?

If you want to open them seperately using them yes. I have one wired up that controls 2 doors but both open and close together.

The only problem I can see with wiring them one is if one fails to close (something gets in the way of the door). Then you got one open and one close door. Granted, if you are doing this remotely, you won't be able to clear the obstruction anyways. It also only comes with one tilt sensor, so you probably want to get another one from monoprice to get accurate status of both doors.

These only work with openers that use the dumb door bell button. If you have MyQ or any wall mounted control that has a learn button or time display, it won't work.

I'll be doing this same thing with a cheap $30 z wave switch and relay.. already do it with my front gate :-)

Picked one of these up from Lowe's last week to use with my Smartthings system. Paired instantly, took 10 minutes to install, and it works quite reliably!

I did this for years before they even started making products like this & this is much better. I also have two overhead garage doors do double the cost & it's still worth it.
