I have these speakers in my livingroom and love them. I picked them up for $200 shipped from Polk Audio, but $250 isn't bad. As with most bookshelf speakers, they work best paired with a subwoofer.

I have an audiosource sw15: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00001OXQE

Not the greatest sub, but it fills my large room pretty well. I have my speakers crossed over at 80hz. They register lower, but I think it's best to use 80hz in a home theater setup. Here's a good writeup on that: http://www.audyssey.com/blog/small-vs-large

Ok deal, I love these speakers, but the nearly identical previous generation RTi6 occasionally comes back in stock for $99.

In case anyone cares, musiciansfriend on eBay has a good sale on JBL305 in white. $238 a pair, probably the best you can do in that price range and amps included.

I have Rti6 which are pretty close to these and I can't tell they absolutely require a woofer. Honestly, they go much lower than I expected (properly placed!). Although I ordered PSW505 to complete my RTI 5.1 HT but I lived without it for a year and didn't feel like I missed a lot as well as my neighbours

I have these that I bought for $200+tax from Polk during some promo in March 2015. Love love love the speakers for movies/netflix.

I have a Csi A6 center channel and a BIC F12 subwoofer, so a great home theater system overall.

I have a pair of RTi6s too and concur they put out a LOT of bass for a relatively small speaker. I have them hooked up to a 1970s Rotel receiver and they sound amazing.

I was between these and the Wharfedale 220's about 4 weeks ago and decided to go with the wharfedales despite being a little more expensive. Damn. I would have jumped at these if this deal happened sooner.

I got them on the same sale with the same center, although not as good of a sub. I agree that it's an excellent HT setup.

Edit: I've honestly not tried these without a sub. I will say that the level of midbass exceeds that of my old floorstanders (Polk R50). FWIW my Audyssey receiver (Denon 1612) registers them as full range. I'd probably get better bass if they were farther from the wall. I have mine wall-mounted using these: https://www.amazon.com/VideoSecu-...B000X9O8SI
