Serious question. What about these shirts make people spend so much?

they look great, they fit great, and are excellent quality. and the real kicker is that you can throw them in the washer and then dryer and they come out looking great without having to iron them.

when I had to go to the office everyday, I was spending just as much on cheap shirts over time having to replace them more often and dry clean them.

I would agree with everything rbraden wrote. These shirts are fantastic and end up being about the same cost as cycling through cheaper department store shirts. They wash and dry looking better than most shirts dry clean, super comfortable, and will way longer than a traditional dress shirt.

What is the difference between their slim and regular? I am "regular" in my opinion (6', 180lbs), but in nearly every brand (sans European or Japanese brands) I have to purchase slim.

Do they out of the box fit for slim /athletic build? I find Banana Repub slim fit button downs fit me well.

I'm 6'2" 210 and their slim is the best fitting shirt I own. Regular is really "fat" or "25 lb gut" at brooks brothers.

Note that they renamed them, slim is now regent (I think)

For me they are even better. BR sleeves are sometimes too short. There may move a tad more room tha BR but I wear both.

I have somewhat of an athletic build (6'1" 205lbs, 44R jacket, 34W pants), and the 16.5" neck, 35" sleeve slim fit fits me perfectly.

Fyi I have a lot (20 to 30) of both Brooks Brothers and Charles Tyrwhitt non-iron dress shirts, and in general, the BB shirts have lasted longer and maintained their quality longer than the CT shirts (although CT shirts usually go for $30/ea while BB rarely goes under $50/ea when they're both on sale).

Another thing to keep in mind is you need to make sure you get the correct neck size. If you go up 1" in neck size it can mean several add'l inches of fabric in the waist area of the shirt, greatly affecting how well the shirt fits overall.

Go with slim. I wear the 'regent fit' shirts and pants and they work well. I tried milano, but they were a little bit too narrow/tight for my tastes/body type (5'10'', 175lbs-- 32x30 pants; 15.5 x 33)

For CT, add $10 for a pocket though....kind of looks/feels weird without one.

Personally I like dress shirts without pockets. Just my opinion but that's one of the reasons I like CT shirts.
