Editor's Notes & Price Research

Written by slickdewmaster

Counter-Depth Refrigerator is a step up from normal Refrigerators as it does not protrude from the cabinets. It is more aesthetically pleasing because you won't see the sides. It is also a benefit to have a shallower refrigerator in a galley kitchen or with an island design. -slickdewmaster

bigger because its not cabinet depth, some people want that smaller footprint.
Crappy brand. On a second fridge now and compressor is making a rattling noise when it stops. Only thing that Samsung makes may be reliable is their TV and monitors.

Can someone tell me a zip code where this is in stock for delivery? I can't add it to my cart to see the price because it is out of stock in my area.

I purchased this fridge from Lowe's recently for $2248 with the 10% off mover's coupon.

Although still in transit, this fridge looked very nice when we check the floor model at Home Depot. In comparison to the competitors we checked, there's more stainless on the inside of this fridge/drawers. Probably makes zero difference for performance but definitely helped convince the wife!

In terms of long-term reliability, I found very little information/reviews on this model. A 2014 review on a similar but older model (RF23HTEDBSR) noted the crisper drawers lost moisture at twice the rate of the "best" crispers.

Forget longevity, you should price out parts. I had a high end cabinet depth elite fridge like this once. The main board fried, $800, the inverter fried $600, all within the course of a decade. I, no joke, purchased a craigslist side by side for $150, it "broke" after 2 years, and to replace the compressor was another $200. That was 3 years ago. so I paid $350 for a fridge that's going on its 6th year now. I wonder how much real time / effort / energy these high end semi-luxury fridges actually save versus cost. (I know there are far higher luxury fridges out there.

some homes are now built to have a counter depth refrigerator. If I were to have a regular depth unit, it would stock out about 3 inches into a door way.

Yeah its quite difficult to find a buy-worthy price in "counter depth" (depending on what your other limiting factors are- lots of fridges can be cheaper, depends on what you are in the market for). I actually bought this fridge today (doesnt ship out till mid october though). My Subzero averaged about $200 a year in repairs- and hubby knows his way around that stuff or it would have been much worse. It was time for something new Smilie
